Article in Texas Tribune:
Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday signed a bill into law significantly reducing the cost to get a license to carry a handgun, making Texas one of the states with the lowest fee in the nation.

"The right to bear arms is something that is synonymous with the state of Texas. We are proud to expand the right to bear arms by lowering the cost of what you have to pay in order to get a license to carry," Abbott said. "Texans' ability to bear arms is going to be even bolder today than it's ever been before."
NRA ILA:
Abbott said he was pleased with the bill, "Texas is known for its strong Second Amendment rights laws, and I’m proud to further strengthen those rights today," he said. "No law abiding Texan should be priced out of the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights. I’d like to thank Senators Nichols and Huffman, and Rep. Phil King for their work in expanding liberty in Texas."

Moody had two (failed) amendments to SB16 yesterday. The first one would have made it a requirement to have a gun safe in order to get a carry permit. The second one would have eliminated the $40 fee for people who provide proof they have a gun safe. Both amendments were torpedoed by POO.

That's not what the amendment does. It eliminates the fee for peace officers. It's still $40 for the rest of us.
