As I stated before, IANAL, but if leaving a gun unattended in public... and that's what you're doing, NguyenVanDon, with respect... is not illegal, I would truly be shocked. I would love to hear TXI jump in on this... Am I the only one who thinks this?Flatland2D wrote:With respect to the other board members, you may want to AT LEAST look into another method of carry, or reconsider your basketball routine. Maybe you could leave it in your car or at home if you are not far? Just give it a little more thought before committing to your ways.
I'm not a parent, but I know it's real easy for a kid to escape their parent's vision even with close attention. And that's the good parents. What about the ones who let their kids run free? It's not illegal for parents to do that, but it is illegal for you to make a handgun accessible to a minor. And that is really pushing it I think.

My apologies, I worded my post poorly. I just meant let's keep on topic, but you're right: Maturity/responsibility are part of what this thread is discussing. My bad...
On another note, do any of you fellow young CHLers know any ladies our age who carry? My ex and a good friend both carry, and it never ceases to amaze me. They are both very blond, giggly sorority types, and IMHO, the last two I would ever expect to carry a concealed handgun. What about ya'll?

Children were not mentioned, but we all know what you meant. I think it is ill advised and immature of this person to leave a weapon in an unattended backpack--especially at a public basketball court. IANAL, but I wouldn't doubt if that is somehow illegal. All that to be said, please drop the issue and deal with it via PM if you think this person actually needs to be talked to about a specific problem.

I hope this doesn't sound corny, but the striker-fired/semi-automatic/polymer handgun is sort of "ours". It seems that certain generations have their guns, and as the first Glock (yes, Glock did it first...) was mass produced in the early/mid 1980's, you could say it came around when we did! The look, feel, and additional safety of the XD is steadily making it more popular (IMHO) than the Glock, but I think we have yet to see the full line of polymer pistols in the market. Either way, I'm happy to say I love revolvers and 1911 style arms, but the polymer pistol is the gun-style for me.Russell wrote:I am definitely glad to see so many XD's being carried! I failed to mention my carry gun is an XD-9 Service.

You and me both, RubenZ. I have been looking very intently at the Kel-Tec P11 and PF9. I have settled on the PF9 but cannot decide if I'm ready to buy. I would love to have a small gun like that for specific occasions where pocket or ankle carry would come into play. You looking at any gun in particular?RubenZ wrote:It's just like what to do with my weapon if I'm bowling or doing some other fun activity where printing may occur or comfort will become an issue. I'm actually thinking of going with some type of ankle holster and pocket gun.
darn, and I thought I only needed 1 gun for CHL ;) oh well I guess I'll just have to get another gun

Wow, wow, wow.
Great thread! I just turned 22 and am entering year two of carrying. I certainly wouldn't call what I've gone through a "lifestyle change", but I have noticed differences. I just use my head a lot more.
Secondly, in relation to secrecy, I agree. McKnife, I don't know if you're 22 also, but we might be long lost brothers. I also carry an XD service, have several friends who know and love to talk about it, and made the (one-time) mistake of attempting to bowl with it. As far as the friends go, I also sort of, er, shut them up. They were mostly excited as the three of them are all getting their CHLs through Ross Bransford (my instructor) on August 12th.
Speaking of those knuckleheads and Alamo Drafthouse, we all went last night and they didn't say a thing; I think they've gotten the picture by now. Alamo (S. Lamar, at least) is still not posted and I have been given no verbal warnings, so I will continue to carry there.
Glad to know there are other young guys and (maybe) gals like me out there.
