Re: "Waiting Room"

Skatman11 wrote:As I see many people recieve their CHL within a month or so. I have a question about an Non Resident CHL. I applied in May and with all of my supporting documents turned in by the 10th. My status still says fingerprints and background check under review. I have called 4 different times and they say all of my documents have been received and they have not sent me anything in the mail requesting further information or saying I've been denied. The last time I called about 2 weeks ago the lady said she didnt know what the hold up was and that she was going to send it over to processing hoping it would jumpstart the process. To this day still no change in status. Any suggestions? Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Thanks,
I had this issue when I applied for mine....I won't say how long mine took to get here but it could likely be that they are having to contact ur state and get info from them.....be patient trust me....but if they are sending it to a SUP then ur wait may be soon over in a week or two also u applied during the weird times frame between feb-may whn therewas a big hold up urs could still be stuck in that que hope that helps good luck

Re: "Waiting Room"

Here's a question for the group, is there any difference in appearance between a resident vs non resident CCW?

7/26/2016 - All green except "Print Pending"
7/30/2016 - Mailed/status change I'm able to change address!
No plastic in hand yet and I'll probably have to wait until Monday or Tuesday!

Very surprised about my times! Although I've always lived in the same city and a clean BG except a couple speeding tickets I did defensive driving for :smash:

I haven't had a whole lot of time with my holster, but now the last hours is the longest part of the application!

15 days total....pretty quick looks like someone lit a fire under the folks at dos and started crack in the whip making them pump out those apps

Pawpaw wrote:I don't have details, but Charles has told us before that our fingerprints are sent to the FBI as part of the background check. That alone tells us that there is more to it than a simple NICS check.

well thank you much pawpaw. I'm going to do a little more research and here and there but that is definitely good info to know. I'm sure if they are going to the FBI we aren't the only state they are dealing with. But oh well another day of no CCW but its ok I still get to go shoot and practice. Range after work it is!

When I called they told me they had an additional 60 days past the 6 weeks to for background check...

bull Meter was officially full... going to email someone congressman, senator, chuck norris or whatever it takes
Just nuts. How can a NICS take Academy 5-10 minutes but the gubment six weeks???
That's what I'm sayin.. this is nuts
There is a vast difference between a NICS check and the LTC background check.

Similarly, there is a vast difference between the LTC background check and a real background check (officially called a "background investigation") for a security clearance. The latter WILL take six to twelve months and scare the ever loving snot our of all your friends. :tiphat:
pawpaw without going into too much detail (as I am assuming its quite lengthy) do you happen to know what is looked into during a LTC background check? Can what is done even be posted? I am curious as to what is looked at. I imagine quite a few things are looked at but I can only speculate.

I finally got the bright idea to check the status again online today and saw this (it did not indicate anything before--maybe they are actually getting around to mine). I emailed a few times using the "Contact Us" form on the website and got a few canned responses and 1 actual response from a guy who said it was in progress.

well your a few weeks before me bigbuckey...guess we are both in the 100 club once you get yours ill start stalking the mailman myself i feel your frustration. has it always been like this even for renewals?

so called DPS a few days before this orig post and they told me they were referring it to a supervisor because it shouldn't be taking this long and all my stuff was in order ....so i called today to see whats going on and I was informed that a supervisor does indeed have it and it may now take an additional 3-4 weeks of processing and I should have it soon...how much more processing does this need? I've actually had two different background checks done on me in the time its taken them to get to this point. all I can really do it laugh  meanwhile im still stuck at the pending application review and oddly enough one of my cowokers started his application on the June 27 (i know because helped him submit it) and he has his plastic in hand as of Friday he was gracious enough to send me a nice picture of his. On a positive note I am getting very good at not tugging at my shirt or constantly checking my hip to make sure my weapon is still there. Im almost use to the feel of the holster and pistol on my side. Still can't master CC while sitting on the porcelain throne. Think ill check around the forum for a thread that talks about it. Happy waiting all :cheers2:

Some of the wait times seem to be getting really short.

The skeptical side of my brain wonders if maybe they are "fast tracking" some of the very recent apps through to get their averages down considerably.
I wouldn't be surprised. I'm on Day 73, fingerprints and BC still "under review". I think stuck in someone's desk drawer is more likely, but they don't have that as a category....
Oh I thought I was the only one with my waiting days in the 70's.
I'll join the 70s club tomorrow.

I'd say give them a call because the DPS usually has them done within 60 days...that's what is stated on their site anyway.
Hopefully ur sooner I'm on day 93....I've tried calling dps but I always get the same old song and dance about they at back logged and don't have an exact time on when they will finish but get told to wait one more week.....I've waited four of those lol
