So carry on Padre Island is prohibited?
It's a National Park. So, yes.

Edit to add: Padre Island National Seashore is a national Park. South Padre isn't part of the park.

Given Houston traffic, you could live inside the city limits 10 minutes from the normal duty station, but still be an hour from downtown.

Cities can't regulate carry at all. Period.

Who Owns The Alamo?

The Alamo is owned by the State of Texas and operated by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Although many believe that Alamo is only the church, or Shrine, it is actually a 4.162 acre complex composed of original structures dating back to the mission period, a gift museum, a library, meeting hall, support facilities, and gardens

In the first years of CHL, DRT banned carry. The Alamo Rangers were known to engage in some "racial profiling", by walking up to middle aged white folks wearing fanny packs and giving them verbal notice that firearms were forbidden. (Not even asking if they were carrying, just informing them that it was prohibited. )

These days, with preemption in place, the Alamo can't be posted 30.06.

The last time I was there was in 2000, and there was a tiny notice as part of a brass plaque on a wall. Not compliant at all, and no other signage. They were more concerned with flash photography.
