Yup. What if it had been a do-bad with a crowbar, who had seen him putting it in the trunk? Bye-bye pistol.

Does that mean you're a reformed Reddie?
I don't know what a Reddie is unless you are talking about the Rho Sig Fraternity.
You met her at OBU, and you don't know what a Reddie is? Surely you're familiar with those heathens across The Gulch from OBU?

For the clueless onlookers, Henderson State University and Ouachita Baptist University are rivals --and next-door neighbors-- in Arkadelphia, Arkiesaw. When their football teams play, it's called "The Battle of the Gulch", because they're situated in a valley.

Thats hogwash.
I like to keep things polite on this forum. While others who have disagreed with you have used stronger language, I'll merely say that you are needlessly brusque and possess an unusually strong degree of confidence in your opinions, despite a lack of empirical merit to said opinions.

Keeping the 10yo daughter rule in mind, and all. Otherwise, I'd use stronger language to someone who just called me a liar.

Just for the record, I do appreciate your familiarity with the Texas Penal Code, even thought I don't always agree with your interpretation. You're a valuable asset here on this forum. Unfortunately, you sometimes seem to believe you are the expert, which is obviously not the case.

And there is NO data to support your claim that criminals would "only" carry concealed if open carry were allowed for law abiders.

From where do you think such data would come, given that we have no base of data for open carry?

I expressed an opinion. You attacked my position on merit. Since you claim merit, the burden is on you to present evidence.

Your turn, sir.

You are at the Grocery store and there is a real scumbag, gang banger looking dude walking around with open carry.................

You are at an office building and there is a man dressed in slacks, a polo shirt open carrying into a family law attorney's office..................
No differently than I think and feel right now, knowing any of those people could be carrying concealed.

The historical view is that only cowards or criminals carried concealed weapons. Gentlemen were openly armed. If open carry were made legal in Texas, cowards and criminals would continue to (illegally) carry concealed, to avoid attention and scrutiny.

I recently attended the Free State Project's 2006 Pocupine Freedom Festival in Lancaster, NH.

When you get a bunch of hard-core libertarians together in one place, you can be certain that many of them will be armed. In NH, open carry is perfectly legal (and concealed carry is cheap and easy). And we were within sight of Vermont, where unlicensed open and concealed carry are perfectly legal.

So, during our week at Roger's Campground, I saw a lot of people reveling in the freedom to open carry. Many of them came from Massachusetts or other non-RKBA states; some came from Texas or other must-conceal states.

Tactically, I believe concealed carry is the better option. But as a freedom loving American, I had to grin while in NH and VT, leaving my cover shirt unbuttoned and not caring how the wind blew, or just shucking it altogether.

I know my Hawaiian shirt was flapping in the breeze a couple of time, and I saw eyes glance in that direction. And nobody cared! Welcome to freedom!

Our oldest son flew in from his Army post in California to join us in NH. He told me today that he hadn't paid much attention, but when someone asked me what I was carrying, he looked around and saw that everyone was carrying openly. He kinda liked that!

It's gorgeous country up there. We plan to move to Lancaster, NH within 3 years. Here are some pics:

I can't say that I completely agree with you about criminals not thinking clearly. I admit that they are not always intelligent....but for the most part they are very determined.
That's exactly what I mean about not thinking clearly: they're determined, but seldom think things through.

If they would think things through a little more carefully, they wouldn't get caught, and I'd be out of a job.

I know some extremely intelligent criminals, but greed, impairment, or simple arrogance caused them to not think clearly. That's how I've come to know them. ;-)

No one can say that Dan Morales is not an intelligent man, but he's mopping the main corridor at FCI Texarkana.

I've made this point before. I don't remember if I've made it here, so forgive me if you've heard this.

I'm not sure that open carry amounts to a big "shoot me first" emblem, despite what the detractors say. Criminals often aren't thinking clearly, are frequently impaired, and are seldom blessed with an excess of brains.

There have been several times that we have seen security video where someone attempts to rob a store, and a uniformed cop is standing right there at the counter!

I've never been in a gun store where the employees weren't openly carrying. I've never been in a convenience or jewelry store where they were. Guess which gets robbed more, and where more employees get shot, armed or otherwise?
