No, because you'd be engaged in a legitimate sporting activity using the handgun.

§ 46.15. NONAPPLICABILITY.
(b) Section 46.02 does not apply to a person who:
(...)
(4) is engaging in lawful hunting, fishing, or other
sporting activity on the immediate premises where the activity is
conducted, or is en route between the premises and the actor's
residence, if the weapon is a type commonly used in the activity;

I'd definitely get a BBQ gun for OC, although it would vary a bit from the traditional, because I don't like scrimshaw or engraving. I'd invest in the fine leather appropriate for such a gun, too. Nothing ostentatious, just appropriately high quality.
