I'm beginning to suspect the canine encounter training officers receive is not training on how to deescalate or avoid shooting dogs. It happens too often and the canine isn't required to charge the officer to get the treatment.According to Police Chief Will Johnson, the officer had undergone eight hours of training for canine encounters, as well as mandatory firearms training.
