I have been drinking a Rock Shandy for many years - club soda, bitters and a lime wedge.Rafe wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 4:25 pmDon't know how it came about, but for years one of my favorite summer drinks has been 50% tonic water and 50% lemonade in a big tumbler over ice. Like an Arnold Palmer but with tonic water instead of tea. The tonic cuts the sweetness of the lemonade, and adds a little fiz. With sugar free lemonade & sugar free tonic water, it's a diet drink!
Come to think of it, I don't have any tonic water or lemonade in my CAB -- COVID Apocalypse Bunker.
A nice refreshing diet drink for the summer.
I didn't even know it had a name until a couple years ago when AndyC told me.

This is not medical or professional advice. The amount of quinine in tonic water is so low it has no therapeutic value. It is only for the bitter taste.Noggin wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 2:04 pm Given that Chloroquine is essentially synthetic Quinine has anybody here noticed a run on Tonic Water in their local stores?
I visited my Local Kroger and HEB this morning and saw that their stocks ot Tonic Water looked a bit depleted. They had much more Club Soda and Ginger Ale on the shelves either side of the Tonic.
I plan on drinking a a quart of Tonic a day, after all it won't do any harm and I quite like the drink anyway, back in my military days in Belize I used to drink a pint a day, in the Officer's Mess (of course back then it usually had some Gin in it).
Add some lime to your gin and tonic and at least you'll get some Vitamin C.Tonic water contains no more than 83 mg of quinine per liter—a much lower concentration than the 500 to 1,000 mg in the therapeutic dose of quinine tablets.
Drinking a few ounces of tonic water shouldn't be harmful, but it isn't likely to prevent your leg cramps

According to the article, one of the infected people is a personal friend of Dr. Samuel Fink.WildBill wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 9:52 amRob72 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 9:24 amNot to be rude, but Dr. Fink is a Primary Care doc, 30 years of practice with no publications, and no documented work with NIAD, CDC, etc.. This 30 year doctor in CA who is treating COVID19 patients seems to think it's a really big deal. Article here.
North Korea is lying foreign diplomats out of the country and there are reports of hundreds of deaths among soldiers who are not elderly or infirm.
This is clearly a big deal, and in a few weeks that fact won't be able to be denied here in the US either.'My biggest hope is that I am totally wrong, and that you will all wonder in a few weeks what the hell I was talking about.
But I have a pretty good track record, and I think you should take steps now to protect yourselves and your family.
There is little cost to taking extra precaution right now, and the earlier, the better.'
On his website he states that he is an associate clinical professor at UCLA Medical School, but the medical school
website does not list him as a faculty member. Interesting.
