Re: What is a belt holster

Going for eight pages -

I think it's interesting that many people on the forum were pleased with OC passing because they wouldn't have to worry about "printing"
or accidentally exposing their gun if the wind blew their shirt or jacket open.

So if you were not carrying concealed in a belt [or shoulder] holster, then you would still be illegally exposing your handgun.

I wear a paddle holster, but always with a stiff leather or Wilderness Instructor belt.
My normal handguns are Colt Detective and Beretta PX-4SC.
Both are fairly heavy so I don't think an elastic belt would have enough support to keep the gun from sliding down off of your waist.
I can't imagine wearing a paddle holster without a belt, unless it was a very small .380 ACP.
I even wear my gun belts when I pocket carry.
Maybe I have just gotten used to the gun belts. I still use them even when I do not carry.
Maybe some other forum members will talk about their experience with paddle holsters.

Here it is!
I'm glad Chuck has other methods of defense at his disposal than the hammer down on empty chamber, 1911.
You tell him he's wrong. I'm not going to. :biggrinjester:
Actually I read that it is a Beretta 92, not a 1911.
If you want to know for sure you could call or send an email asking him if that is really a pimped out Beretta 92 that he carried on Walker Texas Ranger. "rlol"

I know what you're going for there, but I'm thinking that if the gun is in a purse it is not being openly carried and doesn't matter whether it's actually in a holster or not.
Just food for thought. :???:

Re: What is a belt holster

This a a Yaqui Slide holster. It is a "minimalist" belt holster. I believe it would meet the law, but I would not wear it.

Re: What is a belt holster

I agree that some people may be "making too much of it", but the topic deserves discussion.

I think the reason manufacturers list paddle holsters in a different category than the belt holster is for marketing purposes.

It makes it easier for the consumer to search and find the particular type or design of holster that they are looking for, the same as IWB and pocket holsters.

I use a paddle holster for the convenience of a quicker on and off and adjustment. I don't like threading a stiff gun belt through loops on a holster.

I always wear the paddle holster with a gun belt.

As far as a shoulder holster, I wouldn't wear with open carry.

Re: What is a belt holster

I don't believe that a consensus has been reached.

My personal opinion is that a paddle holster is a belt holster, but I am not offering legal advice.

A consensus of forum members doesn't mean that it meets the legal requirements.

That decision, I think, would be made by the Texas AG.
