It would be nice, but I don't think it's possible. The surface finish of the base metal is very critical when trying to get a smooth and uniform coating of bluing or plating. I think that the old Colt Royal Blue required a lot of hand polishing and buffing that would probably be too costly for today's consumers. Probably the chemicals that they used were not too environmentally friendly.
