I read that quote as well. And it gave me chills. A law abiding citizen that has passed background checks, has a good record, and gets shot because of the presence of a gun????? This would be a horrible precedence for the rest of us if that is his only defense. "Citizen had a firearm in my sphere of influence. I was uncomfortable. I shot them."

:iagree:

Goes back to my post about "lack of grit" officers earlier.

And racism is not always white vs black etc, it occurs with Latino vs black, black vs Asian etc.
Just because he wasn't white doesn't remove racial component here necessarily.

Re: MN: Police officer shoots kills possible CHL in traffic stop streamed live on Facebook as he dies

Side note, I remember watching couple years ago an episode of Alaska State Troopers where this nut locked himself inside of a mobile home in the middle of nowhere and threaten to shoot & comitt suicide.

Trooper was alone and he talked to this man who was armed and drunk, barricaded inside of that rat infested mobile home for hours seems like, finally convincing him to surrender and come out.

Several hours later he surrendered, came out and he got into Trooper's truck (passanger side) and they drove to the station.

That Trooper was gritty and knew how to defuse the situation.
I think the standards are pretty high for AST, still.

Re: MN: Police officer shoots kills possible CHL in traffic stop streamed live on Facebook as he dies

This is what happens in BO's America. Everything is upside down.

Ugly truth is that because of affirmative action, reduction in standards and degradation of proper training protocols to cater to said reduction in standards, people who have no business being a Law Enforcement Officer end up with the job they are not prepared to handle. Either mentally, physically or both.

I said before that I've noticed that yesteryear LEO's had more grit. And I'm not talking long long time ago. I'm talking about late 90's. Now I have people close to me who have served in combat, have a excellent street savvy aptitude, are expert marksman and who have squeaky clean record getting passed up because they have full sleeve tattoo as an example.
So what you get instead is a clean cut dude who looks good on paper but lacks that grit. Stop gets little iffy or something happens that is not unlawful but maybe out of norm and they get twitchy and nervous. Next thing you know, situation goes south for everyone involved.

Again, this is NOT the RULE , but rather an EXCEPTION, and the MAJORITY of LEO's are some of the finest and bravest souls patrolling our degenerated streets.

It's a shame that FEW who got into profession they never were qualified (under "old" standards) for to begin with, end up embarrassing the WHOLE LE community.

As a friend and a cousin of current LEO's, it makes my blood boil.

Supposedly, as that is the county where he lived. Do you have a link to confirmation of his permit issued from that county?
"Philando Castile had a valid permit to carry a gun when he was shot and killed by a St. Anthony police officer, a source confirmed to the Star Tribune Friday."

"Although the names of gun permit holders are not public under state law, a source confirmed Castile was issued the permit when he lived in Robbinsdale."

Robbinsdale is in Hennepin county.

Re: MN: Police officer shoots kills possible CHL in traffic stop streamed live on Facebook as he dies

I deleted a video of a news story involving dispatch audio due to some cursing and graphic nature, but it's out there for anyone to look up.

Again, it is irritating when people clump the incidents together, and I could care less if it's one side doing it or the other.

T.Martin, Brown etc. are completely different cases from this one. Officer messed up here pretty bad, and MY OPINION HERE is that in THIS case race DID play a factor.

That's my opinion.

Re: MN: Police officer shoots kills possible CHL in traffic stop streamed live on Facebook as he dies

Sources to contrary?

At some point common sense ought to kick in, don't you think so?

He had valid LTC. I gave you sources on that. Now, apply little logic. Valid LTC, kid in the back, and you expect me to believe that he did not comply, instead he was reaching for his gun?
With officer's voice and his verbal disposition to the aftermath, my opinion is that he (officer) knew that he made an error in judgment.

Yes, I believe officer was given verbal notice about LTC.
No, I don't believe that this man was reaching for anything other then his ID.

Re: MN: Police officer shoots kills possible CHL in traffic stop streamed live on Facebook as he dies

Castile did, according to various sources, have a valid Minnesota LTC.

It kind of grinds my gears when some fail to realize that the shootings are mutually exclusive. In other words, there are thugs who deserve what they've got (Brown in Furgesson as an example), and there are American Citizens who did NOT deserve to get put down like an animal (Mr. Castile, Mr. Garner or Mr. Finnicum as an example).

I have family and close friends in LE. Majority are honorable and brave souls serving their communities with excellence. But,not all cops are good guys, just look at NYPD 77'th district.

I'll leave it at that.

Yes. He was seat belted and got shot four times point blank, one round looks like it exploded his arm.

All while the child was in the backseat and this gentleman was lawfully carrying his sidearm for which he did not reach.

And yes, in this case I believe that this was race related. By my digging in, the only thing this man did wrong was being black.

The way he reached for his identification was not threatening, and they were all compliant. Cop overreacted because this man was black.

I know I'm gonna get pounded for this, but again, it is what it is.

Re: MN: Police officer shoots kills CHL in traffic stop streamed live on Facebook as he dies

I was just now able to watch and hear the extensive stream/video.

This officer is one sorry piece of garbage, and I see him no different then the thugs who executed Finnicum.
You can even hear him curse afterwards at himself because he knows he messed up bad.

This gentleman had been requested to show identification and he complied, officer knew he was licensed to carry. Lady in video showed great strength and did not lose it until the reality of situation kicked in.

I hope this piece of garbage thug in uniform gets a murder charge for what he did.

He just embarrassed and denigrated all fine honorable officers who execute their task with diligence and professional restraint.

Not good.

For LEO's on this forum a question I have... do you notice or have you noticed an uptick in rookies coming in who are book smart collage grads with little to no street smarts, while those who may not necessarily have a degree but who are ex-military / street savvy, maybe even with full sleeve tattoos  are getting rejected?

I think the question is loaded, but I have a hunch, based on what I have heard and seen, that due to various bureaucratic reasons and general breakdown in true leadership, we have a whole lot of officers out on the streets who would have never gotten hired on even as recent as late 90's. Seems that officers then had more grit and stamina and were equipped with more composure to operate under stress.

:rules:
I know that Texas DPS Troopers are the most polite and profession acting Officers I have dealt with. I don't know about the current requirements, but when I was young, the DPS required 60 hours of college level courses before you could apply to an academy.
I agree on TX DPS. Every encounter I've personally had with TX State Trooper has been 100% positive with no issues whatsoever.

You don't know that.

I agree with philip964. Race does appear to be a factor here. It is what it is.
I agree, but the DoJ just established a pretty high bar for actually getting charged, and I don't think the evidence we've seen is strong enough. For the new standard, that is, not for what the standard should be.
Oh yes, the DoJ standards.... :banghead:

This is not good.

Probably a nervous nelly officer who got little too twitchy here.

Prayers for the family, especially the children.
