Welcome to Texas if not in body then in Spirit!theblaze wrote: ↑Tue Jan 01, 2019 2:14 pm New here but not new to guns or carrying.
I’m retired Air Force now living in Florida but have had an affinity for the Great State of Texas ever since I was stationed there for pilot training during my first year in the Air Force.
I drove there from Nebraska with a suitcase and a Glock 19. While I was there I added a Dillon 550 reloading set up and a stainless Colt Government Model.
Texas did not have CHL back then and it would be years later (1999) while I was stationed in California (of all places) that I would get my first permit to carry. Been carrying ever since and it is relatively easy to do in Florida.
If it’s OK for a once-Texan from Florida to hang out with you here I would be humbled and honored. Thanks!
David

Re: Introduce yourself
A good gun belt goes along way in the comfort dept, I carry a full size 1911 with double stack mag of .45acp, the belt makes all the difference!Kalistis wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 11:45 am Thanks all for the warm reception. My husband is a bit bitter that I’ll have my LTC before him. He took the class with me but has a pending Texas ID in the works, so he can’t proceed to the next step just yet.
I went to the range last night to help me settle on which of the three would be my primary, but I’m struggling with making a decision. I’m probably the most accurate with the HK VP9. I have small hands but the larger grip affords a better grip. Additionally, the gun is heavier than the other two which certainly helps. However, I can’t see how I’ll comfortably wear this gun. It might be a good option as my secondary, holstered in the car?
I’m most comfortable with the Sig, but only because I’ve had it the longest out of the 3. I like the larger capacity mags and the ease of loading the mags. The Kimber fits my hand perfectly. I love the site. I have a feeling I’ll be more accurate with it than the Sig down the line. The 7 round mag is a bit of a bummer but that only matters at the range. It’s not like I’ll be unloading it on the daily. The mag is also annoying to load. I have a thing that assists me in loading it but the bottom of the mag doesn’t rest on a surface evenly. So it’s a bit more work to load. Both are small and easy to conceal. I’ll probably head to Cabela’s today to see if I can find a holster.

Re: Introduce yourself
Don't sweat the concealed carry, I open carry a full size 1911, Most people either don't notice or don't care, relax and welcome to the forum!jonmo1 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 9:40 pm No Wally-Walk yet. First public walk ended up being a Taco Bell. Actually cool, a few people but not a crowd.
Next day did H-E-B, much more crowded.
And today did a Farmers Market, a Flea Market and a restaurant.
I thought I was going to be paranoid, thinking everyone would be looking at me. But it didn’t take long to realize that’s just not the case. My wife didn’t even know I was carrying, and she knew I just got the license.
Now I need to find a range that will allow me to practice drawing from concealed holster.
