I think my instructor didn't misinform us intentionally. Things change quickly and a backup / log jam can happen really fast because there are not many people working to get CHLs out to us.

Patience While Waiting on PINS

ccrobbins wrote:Mine took almost 75 days just to be issued. There are only a few people working on THOUSANDS of permits. I have no idea how everyone there can remain so patient and nice to us. I bet they get 500 calls/emails a day saying "where is my permit". Just be patient and practice, really that is all that you can do.

Hoping you get a speedy turn around,
Chris
Hi Chris,

My original concern was based on the information that my CHL instructor passed along to our class. He told us we should have a PIN to track our status after ten days. That just is not happening for many people who mailed their applications into DPS. So after nearly double ten days time, I became concerned whether or not my application packet was even recieved by DPS-CHL Bureau. Our instructor also told us that 1 out of 5 applications were lost. Uggh... I dodn't know where he got that information, but I hope it is not true.

I have also heard that only a few people are processing these thousands of applications. I'll be patient but check in case something hangs in the process, then I'll check on it.

Pin Finally Issued

Larsin wrote:Heya Hoppes,

Glad ya got the PIN #. I, like you now, can just check the DPS site for the "Licensed Issued/Active" status instead of "Processing Application" 5 times a day lol.
I'll check it every once in a while. I'll try to save bandwidth if at all possible though. I am sure it will be done before long now. thanks for checking back with me.

I did it(after about 20 days)and got a response(with PIN #) within 10 minutes.
I recieved a PIN about 10:18 AM this morning after I emailed the CHL email address. I've checked my status and I am still in limbo or waiting.

Thanks guys for your suggestions.

Larsin,

I emailed chl@txdps.state.tx.us around midnight last night. As of 10:20 AM this morning, I have not received a response. I wish it only took me ten minutes. I am glad it only took you ten minutes to get a PIN. That being the case, I would have had a PIN around 8:00 - 9:00 AM this morning.

I am not sure of the back traffic they receive on the weekend though, so I'll give them today to respond before following up.

Thanks for your suggestion.

p-89 wrote:Same Here. I mailed mine on June 4 after 5:00 p.m. I sent them an email on the 22nd (I think). I got a responce in about 4 minutes w/ my pin. Then I got it in the mail on the 26th. I am glad to know that they are processing my app. but I check it way too much. I should be more patient. I know they probably wont have it finished untill August. That being said, it's time for me to check again.
I am going to send them an email and see what happens. I'll follow up.
Thanks for your responses.

Still Waiting

I mailed my completed application on June 04, 2007 and I am still waiting on a PIN. I Called the DPS office that handles CHL and they told me this past Monday that it may take as long as 30 or more days just for a PIN.

So I am still waiting in limbo. Although, the lady that I spoke with on the telephone told me that she was looking at my information on her screen when I gave her my DL data and information.

So much for what our CHL instructor told us. He said it should take no longer than ten days for a pin from the time it was received in Austin. That was June 02, 2007. The lady at the DPS CHL office told me it could be up to 30 days and processing up to 60 days. So I at least expect a PIN by the end of this next week if the lady at the DPS CHL office is accurate on the time frame for recieving a pin.

Technically, with summer coming around, I could see a delay longer than 60 days at some point. In the meantime, I'll just hang in there.
