CHL Bureau Web Site Process Improvement

Just got an email back. Says waiting on Background.......
Since you have called, it will probably be finished soon. I'm convinced there is something to the "squeaky wheel" adage when it comes to CHL processing.

Welcome to TexasCHLforum, we appreciate you joining. (I know, I sent a PM welcoming you.)

Chas.
Charles,

It leaves one confused and without faith when we hear multiple stories that an application was halted for bad finger prints, photo not signed, and the CHL Bureau claims to have sent a letter to the applicant but the applicant doesn't get the letter.

There has to be a better way to notify applicants of problems with an application on the CHL web site. For the web site to just continue displaying the "Processing Application" message is just not a good thing when the application is being held for some reason.

I hope you will mention this to the Legislators when you meet again. If the applicant is notified in a more timely manner when a problem occurs, the applicant can get things corrected and get back on track.

Thanks,

Congratulations on Your CHL

6/20/2007 - Email request for PIN. Received reply in 15 min and letter that afternoon. PIN letter was dated June 15.
7/16/2007 - DPS website shows Application Completed, exactly 6 weeks after DPS received application.

I'm in Midland County. This is for a new CHL.
It's time for you to do the dance, huh?

My status is the same today - "Processing Application". Mine might drag out longer because I had an out of state address during the previous five years but I got back to Texas as fast as I could. I am not only waiting on a slow county to complete their stuff, but also a state at the ends of Planet Earth. Like others have said, processing time is erratic - seems to be hit and miss.

Incidents and Wally World and the Value of Legal Wally Walk

dws1117 wrote:Congrats on getting the plastic. Time for you to take the traditional first armed trip to Wal-Mart.

Sounds like you had a great turn around time.
There is something to be said about a legal "Wally Walk". My wife, daughter, and I went to the San Marcos, TX Wal Mart last fall at night. It was around 9:30 PM and we started to enter the west side entrance.

As we came close to the entrance doors, a fight broke out between some Gary Job Corp participants waiting for a bus, and some other cats. It became close to violent pretty fast and those guys didn't care if innocent bystanders were nearby. Loud profanity broke out faster than the weather changes in Texas. One male reached into his pocket to pull something out. Pushing and shoving started.

I pushed my wife and daughter inside and told them to get away from that door fast. I didn't want to see what the guy was about to retrieve from his pocket. The conversation became much louder and abusive just outside the entrance as we walked further into the store. One Wally World greeter had notified store management on a walkie about the situation as we were rushing by him.

I heard enough to learn that one group had "dissed" the other group for being Gary Job Corp workers. I remember when Wally World was a much safer place. For this reason and others, we don't go to Wal Marts at night anymore but I know that daylight may not be much safer so we limit our Wally World visits. I am only at day 38 waiting on my CHL.

I later learned that such incidents happened frequently at that Wal Mart because of the Gary Job Corps participants. The local management attempted to ban them from the parking lot and a legal battle with corporate offices ensued. The Gary Job Corp bus still picks them up and drops them off there by the door and out in the parking lot.
