Re: Senior Citizens - opinions requested

yep, it is all about mental ability first, then physical ability. Age really shouldn't be a factor. Asians have a completely different mindset about age. An expression used all over Asia is "age is only a number" and it is well meant and well practiced. Age being a determining factor for a...

Re: a CHL does not mean you're Clint Eastwood

I've said my piece. All the armchair warriors can say what they want, but until they are in the exact situation, then they really are only guessing what they would do.
God Bless you all, and I sincerely hope that none of you ever find yourself in a bad situation.

radar gun stop

I was headed north on the Gulf Freeway and took the Edgebrook exit. I was driving my Corvette and I'll admit that I came off the freeway a little fast. And there he stood, at the first side street, a motorcycle cop with his radar gun. He gave me the hand signal to turn into the side street, which I ...

Re: a CHL does not mean you're Clint Eastwood

oh, and as for the driver of the pick-up. The choices as saw them were 1. to sit there looking straight ahead and hope that he didn't get out with a tire iron and kill me. 2. Look at him and say nothing and hope he didn't get out with a tire iron and kill me. 3. Look at him and say "Gee, I'm so...

Re: a CHL does not mean you're Clint Eastwood

as for the three drunks, I was going inside to pay as they were coming out. I even opened the door for them. As the third one came out he bumped into me and instantly threw a punch. Yep, he caught me completely off guard. He then came at me for a second punch but I guess he was just a little too dru...

a CHL does not mean you're Clint Eastwood

I consider myself extremely fortunate that in 14 years of carry in Texas that I never once pulled my weapon. There were a couple of times where I could have and once where I should have, but I was able to solve the problem without pulling my handgun. Isn't that the ultimate goal of all of us? I was ...

Re: If a stranger were to ask 'What's your religion?"

I actually do get asked this question quite often, I live in a country that is 85% Catholic (Philippines) and being a "foreigner", it is a normal question to ask here. I just happen to also be a Catholic so my answer was a casual "Catholic" To avoid the numerous questions, I just...

Re: Marksman Indoor Range

I moved to Houston in 1976 and wanted a place to shoot and lived near Hobby Airport, so I asked some LEO's who recommended Marksman. It's a popular range for all the local LEO's in that area. Ironically, the last time I shoot there was 3 weeks before leaving the US and one day before I sold my gun c...

Marksman Indoor Range

Sometimes it is not about big and fancy, but about small and comfortable. I have used Marksman Indoor Range for about 25 years prior to moving from the Houston area. It is located on Nebraska (I think) in South Houston, maybe 200 feet off of Hwy. 3 Not real big in size with about 10 slots and a 50 f...

Re: just an antique gun story for you

oh, you are correct, and many times since then I have said that same thing to myself. I just never have been interested in antique guns. I will add that at that time Collectors had a showcase with maybe 50 single action Army revolvers in it, so obviously there is a market for them.

just an antique gun story for you

Back about '95 or so, I had a friend who was moving overseas permanently. One day he came to my house and had this old beat-up revolver and handed it to me. I know zero about old guns and not really interested in learning. I just literally threw it in the floor of my entry coat closet on a pile of c...

wondering what happened to .17HMR

Back in 2008 (?) I bought a new NAA revolver in .17HRM as a dress-up front pocket gun. It was a mean little thing. I only shot it maybe a dozen times. Before I moved to the Philippines I sold it along with the rest of my guns. I have since looked and can find no trace of anyone having it. I twice se...

To all new shooters

I see a lot of posts about what caliber to carry and maybe 50+ years ago an old man (like I am now) gave me the best advice I ever had on that subject. He said "it is much better to hit with a .22 then miss with a .44" Use whatever caliber you can control and consistently hit center mass. ...

Re: Just for the US citizens to think about.

oh......sorry, I should have added that of course all the normal bad guys have guns. Just about 2 years ago 2 Swiss men were killed by 3 men with silencers on their handguns, in a restaurant parking lot in the middle of the afternoon.......never caught the bad guys......this was about an hours ride ...
