Re: SB11 & HB910 This week....
Controversial bills are often signed on the last day. The Democrats and the media have made a lot of noise about how Republicans spent all this time on gun bills to the detriment of more important issues. While that's obviously bull (90% of the time on these bills was consumed by Democrats stalling), one way for the Governor to counter that perception among some in the public is to sign all the other bills he's going to sign first.TVGuy wrote:Is there a reason why people think this would be signed on the 20th day?

The biggest problem with OCT deluding themselves into thinking that their actions in any way contributed to pro-2A bills being passed is that they will continue with those counter-productive actions.

Sure, but not signing a bill that's 90% of what you wanted is silly.RHenriksen wrote:'Not sign' <> 'veto'

Is the Maine Governor related to Huffines or Stickland?
AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage said Tuesday he would not sign a bill that would make it legal for adults older than 21 to carry a concealed handgun without a permit.
LePage, in a telephone interview with Ric Tyler and George Hale of radio station WVOM, said he opposes an age restriction added to the bill by the Maine House of Representatives on Monday.

Public as in "journalists will be present", or "anyone can attend"? If he'll be signing them in Austin I'd love to go and take a picture of the bills being signed.Charles L. Cotton wrote:Gov. Abbott will sign both HB910 and SB11, probably at the same time at a public signing.

Based on what he said on a radio show this morning, SB11 will become law (though not sure if he intends to sign or let it become law without signature).

Am I the only one waiting with bated breath to hear what the New York Times Editorial Board thinks about the passage of HB910 and SB11?

Did SCC issue a new statement? This one sounds a bit more optimistic than the the one they had yesterday

WSJ: Texas Lawmakers Expand Right to Carry Guns on College Campuses
It “is an excellent first step,” said gun-rights group Students for Concealed Carry, in a statement. “We are looking forward to the next few years…[in which] we will work to finish the job and ensure licensed, law-abiding adults are not prohibited from defending themselves simply because they chose to pursue higher education.”

Someone should extract a clip of Birdwell establishing legislative intent yesterday on the Senate floor. Then we put that on DVD and send it to all the university presidents

Well, Students for Concealed Carry sure are pessimistic. As one tweet puts it: "From the Department of Four-Fifths of a Loaf is Worse Than No Loaf":

I went back to check "Greg Abbott’s We the People Plan". This language was rather interesting (in light of the Zerwas amendment):
I suspect this is why Birdwell did not try to strip out the amendment in conference committee.Recommendation 13: Allow CHL holders to carry weapons on campus at institutions of higher education, subject to appropriate limits, at the option of the boards of regents of public institutions of higher education, and the internal decision-making of private institutions of higher education.

Re: SB11 & HB910 This week....
I got promoted tweets from MomsDemand against Campus Carry several times over the last two weeks. I hope they wasted a lot of money on that ad campaign (I'm assuming they targeted any Twitter user in Austin and/or Texas).
