Re: HB 910 (OC) Committee debate - Now

The committee did not vote on a separate bill allowing concealed handguns in university dorms, classrooms and other buildings.

Phillips, chairman of the committee, said the panel will wait for the Senate’s campus-carry bill to be referred to the panel. Senate Bill 11, which would allow private colleges to opt out, was approved last week on a party-line Senate vote.
Any speculation on why they would wait for SB11 but not SB17?

Re: HB 910 (OC) Committee debate - Now

I'd love to see a Committee Member ask one of these "give us local control" buffoons if they think that each institution should also be allowed to decide whether gay or Muslim students can be admitted.

K5GU wrote:So, what's logical about a hospital buying gun safes?
I think the argument is that before entering a prohibited building on campus the CHL licensee would "check" their gun into a safe. However, the proposed bill doesn't require accommodating CHLs in this way (and thus the cost argument is invalid). If a CHL has a need to enter a prohibited building they can lock the gun in their car.

Are you sure that was Navarez? I didn't think he was in the room at the time.
Not sure from the video, but I thought it was his voice. I might be mistaken though.

Did anyone catch his name? Let's leave his business some yelp reviews so that potential customers know how deep his support for the 2nd Amendment runs.

Surprised how strongly Representative Nevarez pushed back on the witness who claimed (referencing this article) that Campus Carry will take 40 gazillion dollars away from cancer research. While he's obviously still going to vote against, I have some newfound respect for him.

Re: HB 910 (OC) Committee debate - Now

Many of the most ridiculous pro-gun people in this hearing also testified in front of the Senate Committee. The fact that they're hurting the cause is obviously not enough to counter-act their huge egos and love of hearing themselves talk.

Re: HB 910 (OC) Committee debate - Now

Btw, for those who are not aware, the Committee will not be voting on the bills today. However, that's not unique to these bills. During the Committee's first meeting a few weeks ago the Committee Chairman stated that it's his policy to not vote on a bill the same day it's heard and instead vote at the next meeting.

Re: HB 910 (OC) Committee debate - Now

I noticed that Mr. Martinez during his testimony forgot to mention that his home state of California has a higher gun homicide rate than Texas.

Looks like he was in Florida earlier this month opposing Campus Carry there as well.
