I do not believe the President's power of pardon extends to those convicted of state crimes, only federal ones.anygunanywhere wrote:Harris County DA office. The office prosecuting pro-lifers. A white female attorney, CHL holder from Texas charged with a firearms violation? I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
I rest my case.
The attorney in question does not work in the District Attorney's office. She works -- or used to -- in the County Attorney's office doing civil cases. It took me awhile to catch on to this, because in the initial newspaper report (linked in the OP) it quotes her as telling the 911 operator that "I'm a prosecutor." I assumed this meant she was an assistant district attorney, but in fact she was an assistant county attorney, and all the newspaper articles are consistent that she worked for the County Attorney (plus the Texas Bar lists that as her duty as well).
I was not aware that county attorneys were called "prosecutors" but that doesn't mean they're not. I would be interested to know that definitively.
