I can do each other Friday, with enough lead time, Saturday is best. BTW, we can call and arrange to book lanes. Entries are for day long and not for hours. BTW, we cannot be like 20 shooters, as the lanes for LR are limited and then we would have to share lanes.

Sometimes I can get away on a Friday, it just depends on workload.

Weather is getting better and we should arrange a long-range shooting day.
You are 100% correct! How do we proceed?
1) Set a date and avenue for 500 yards we can go to the Top gun shooting club. Nice folks there. It is good a place to test hand load ammo, check zero and check your dope at 500 yards.
2) Make a poll to see how many are interested.
3) Range fee is $25 per person, we can call and see if we can get a group discount.

Get your gear ready and hit the firing lanes. Oh, I meant hit some steel down the firing lanes. "rlol" "rlol" "rlol" "rlol"

How about Saturday, Feb 20, 2016?
20th does not work, am training tactical carbine with Phil Ryan, http://txconcealedcarry.com/

How about the following weekend, the 27th?
Might work for me on the Feb 27th. BTW, Phil was my CHL instructor. I hope you like the course.

I'm sure Phil would welcome you if you want to come out and run and gun with your new SIG :fire

Like you, I desire to learn more advanced long range precision shooting skills. I have recently acquired an Armalite AR30a1 (.300 win mag), and looking for longer ranges myself. I have decided that for the break in procedure for it, I will use the Garland Public Outdoor range and grab a 100 yard lane. Ideally, I would like to be in the 300-600 yard range.

I am curious to know how you have progressed to date. Thanks.
Thanks for asking! I rec'd some really excellent responses from my original post. Beiruty was kind enough to invite me via PM to an indoor (100 yd) range to verify zero and and to http://www.topguntexas.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, however I had to decline as I suffered a re-aggravation of a chronic injury. Timing is everything and it sucks to get old! :banghead:

jimlongley suggested http://www.jacobsplaingc.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - and that was a great suggestiion as well! They offer a one day long range shooting course taught by Paul McCoy who seems quite well qualified. Paul emailed me immediately and stated that he had one spot left for the next class on 4/11 and then after that he has openings on 5/2. Assuming that my injury has healed, I plan to take the 5/2 class. Paul asks about your current equipment, sends suggested gear recommendations and overall I was favorably impressed. :thumbs2:

I also noted that TJ Pilling at Tiger Valley http://www.tigervalley.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; offers a 3 day precision rifle class, but I don't think that I am ready for that. I have taken classes with TJ when he used to teach evenings once a month at Elm Fork and he is definitely extremely knowlegible, practical, and very intense!

Also, there was an error in my original post. The scope on my Rem 700 .308 is is an Explore Optics 6-24X50.

Hope this helps! Obviously not as much progess as I had hoped for but moving in the right direction...slowly...

Beiruty wrote:Sure, That range is open on the weekend, when the weather is clear, wind is calm, most likely I will arrange with you to be there.

Much appreciated. Will send PM with my contact info. Looking forward to a suitable weekend day!

Re: SHooting Long Range - North Texas?

Thx. Really am a complete newbie to this. Just purchased my first bolt gun, Remington 700 SPS w/ 6X24 scope. Have never handloaded. Have only run one box of Hornady 168 gr., match grade BTHP thru it thus far.

Prior to this I have shot AR-15 and AR-10 at 100yds successfully, using 1x and 3x red dot optics.

I work during the week, but would love to get together some weekend if that's possible!

SHooting Long Range - North Texas?

I apologize if this has been posed before, but after searching I did not find previous discussions. Am looking for long range shooting facilities and / or classes & training in North Texas. Have been shooting consistently at 100 yards and would like to learn more advanced rifle skills.

Thanks!
