Maybe there was a breach of protocol, maybe there wasn't. But since they themselves admit that they don't know exactly what happened, it's a little dishonest to label it the way they have without knowing.

Re: Ebola outbreak in Africa
Mix a few cases of Ebola into the mix during flu season and the healthcare system will be ...... Interesting.sominus wrote:
Unfortunately there are MANY diseases that begin with the symptoms that Ebola-infected patients suffer from. Influenza and common colds being part of the mix here doesn't help people who would normally say "its nothing".

Re: Ebola outbreak in Africa
My tin foil hat isn't that thick. Or is it thin? Anyway, I don't think the US manufactured the virus, but I think we are getting the sanitized version of what it will likely do. My gut tells me the situation is andwill be far worse than what we are being told.philip964 wrote:

Yes, I missed that. Very important.sjfcontrol wrote:You left out hygiene..gljjt wrote:Survival rate in Africa is being quoted at approximately 50%mamabearCali wrote:I am also hoping (but I am in no way an expert) that if it was to cross an ocean that we have a better understanding of germ theory here and supportive therapy for those affected. Survival rate in the US, so far, is 100%. Of course US sample size = 3 I think.
I believe the odds here are much better. Personnel, supplies, facilities, protocols.

Research indicates this is the greatest cause of increased life expectancy in the US over the last 100 or so years. From the upper 40s to upper 70s.mamabearCali wrote:Good sanitation practices here too....flush toilets (for the most part), clean water, all the amenities. Should help limit disease.

Re: Ebola outbreak in Africa
The US has 1 physician per 333 population.
Liberia has 1 physician per 20,000 population. Before outbreak.
Liberia has 1 physician per 80,000 population. After outbreak, due to leaving the country and death by Ebola.
Sad.

Re: Ebola outbreak in Africa
Obviously, I am no expert, but my gut tells me we will see cases (not including evacuations like we have already seen) in the US. Very limited and well managed though.ripnbst wrote:It is bad and getting worse, I just hope it doesn't cross any oceans.
Praying for the best.

Re: Ebola outbreak in Africa
Some leading virologists are already saying the battle is lost in Liberia and the death toll will be 1,000,000+. Some say as high as 5,000,000. They say it will have to burn itself out naturally. Infected and death tolls are now 2X UN estimates of a month ago.jmra wrote:It's only a matter of time before this thing mutates to an airborne virus. We need to pressure the governments of the affected areas to start using proper protocols in dealing with this thing or it will affect millions instead of thousands.
