Day One Hundred Six (106) since sending in paperwork.
Texas CHL in hand 10 minutes ago.
I've carried a firearm (or two or 3) for most of my adult life, so not a big deal.
Carry smart, don't display unless you are willing to use it, and practice often and SAFETY
must be your mindset.

Re: February 2014 Applications
Today (May 29, 2014) on Day 98 of my application, I received "The Checklist" with 3 "Yield Signs - apparently the same most others have reported) on it.
I guess what pisses me off about the whole process is that I am a licensed Texas Peace Officer (but not working as one at the moment) and
my criminal background check to become one took MINUTES, and here I am waiting for what will be over 100 days to get my CHL...
And...
That a Constitutional right has been perverted to the point that we even have to do this process.
Just venting.
Peace

Re: February 2014 Applications
97 days after application emailed in:
Checked my status on the Texas RSD website earlier today, just received this email:
"Thank you for using the Regulatory Services Division’s website.
Currently the status of your CHL application indicates “in progress” soon to be sent to printing. Please allow time to complete processing."
Has anyone else received this message, and if so, how long until you received it?
Thanks!

Re: February 2014 Applications
So... I called again last week, and spoke to a nice lady who after I told her that I both emailed and mailed the training certificate, she told me they were still waiting on my DD214 and "another" document. I assured her that I had sent it ALL in in my original application in February, so she put me on hold for 15 minutes, then came back on and told me that they DO have all my documents and the background is complete and everything is as it should be... and she was going to forward my stuff to a supervisor so they could "fast track" it and get it out ASAP.
This was early last week... still no status change when I checked online just now. I will probably have the card in hand before the status changes.
96 days since application....

Re: February 2014 Applications
Date of application: Feb. 21, 2014. I was told in mid-May via a phone conversation with DPS that "it should all be completed" by the "Middle of May".
It's the Middle of May - no status change online since early March.
I carry anyway (all I do is back and forth to work where I carry and it is legal to do so) so this is no big deal,
but what really bothers me is the process. Texas DPS should be the best staffed such agency of all 50 states, yet ever
since I have dealt with them beginning in the late 70's, the "modus operandi" has been archaic.
Perhaps I should move to Austin and get a job as a CHL processor...?

Re: February 2014 Applications
Took the CHL Class in November 2013 because the prick of an ex-chief of Police of mine would not acknowledge the Federal Law (HB 218) that grants honorably retired Law Enforcement Officers the right to carry if they completed at least 10 years of Sworn service and maintain their profficiency. The Fed law trumps State of Texas law that requires 15 - I had more than 10 and less than 15.
For whatever reasons, I could not get the papers together (inc. my DD214) until Feb. 2014 when they were faxed and I received an acknowledgment a week later that they were received.
On March 06, I received an email saying that the fingerprint people screwed-up my prints. Had them re-done, then they were sent off, and a week later, I started seeing the "Waiting on Documents" update when I logged-in to the CHL site. That's what I still get even up to 15 minutes before I made this - my first post - on this forum.
I called yesterday - finally got through to a very nice lady, and she told me that they were just waiting on one more document and that it could take "up to 90 days" just to have the documents "attach" to my electronic application. So, I'm almost to the 90 days - almost 30 days past the time it was supposed to take for the application - receipt process.
Funny thing is - I've lived in the same county for almost 35 years now, I've had numerous FBI checks, and I've been in Law Enforcement and Security Management for over 25 years now - and over 15 years of that I was licensed and certified by the State of Texas to carry firearms. Something is very wrong with the system.
