Re: October Applications

And on the 50th day, it shows Mailed. With the coming weekend, I suspect it'll arrive next Wednesday, which will bring the entire process, from submission to completion, to a close a day or two under 60 days.

When we took our class the instructor noted that folks were getting turned around in just over 2 weeks, some in 13-14 days. That set, as it turned out, to be a very unrealistic expectation. Austin became buried in new apps and a flood of renewals.

I think for now, about 60 days is a fair estimate for a typical application, providing one has no issues pop up during background. And it's a good thing, meaning that many are getting licensed. I wish everyone would.

Best wishes to all, especially with the approaching Christmas season. Be blessed and be careful out there.

Re: October Applications

Well Bozz, I got impatient and checked my status this morning. I was going to wait until the 60 day mark. But today, which marks 7 weeks, I show in manufacturing. Same with my wife. So as I previously mentioned, looks like I may have it in hand just before Thanksgiving. I won't be holding my breath, though.

Hang in there. I suspect you'll see an update prior to week end.

Re: October Applications

That's great. You need to go buy a lottery ticket! You hit the DPS lottery, anyway!

My wife and I are still at 44 days without so much as a peep from DPS. At this point, to avoid being frustrated, we're just going to plan to expect them by December 1 and if we don't have them by then, we'll contact them. That's a good 60 day mark.

It is odd that their system is so inefficient, that they don't even notify us, as PAYING CUSTOMERS, whether or not they have received the necessary documents. It's not like this is simply a taxpayer funded entitlement. We paid a significant fee and by my estimation, we are entitled to answers.

Good luck to everyone. Y'all be careful out there. God bless and Long Live the Republic!

Re: October Applications

Glad to hear yours is on it's way. That means ours should be close behind - hopefully. Maybe even as soon as next week.

Great news, Blitz! I sent mine Priority Mail & they got it Oct 4, so maybe I'll hear something by mid-next week, that is if the moon & sun, stars & planets all line up correctly!

Re: October Applications

I'm at 40 days now. Haven't heard a peep. No updates, nothing. Background should be a breeze. Although I did have one moving violation in the last 36 years, back in 08.

Re: October Applications

So I checked with Austin today. Spoke to Rebecca. She was very polite, very friendly. We discussed the floods in Austin and she said it was raining again today.

She then asked when I sent my package and I replied 10/2. She asked if I sent it registered and I replied I used Priority 2 day. She asked if I had a tracking number and if the post office showed it as delivered. I said yes, delivered 10/4 at 1:22pm. She said that's all I need to know, if the USPS shows it delivered, it was. The website would update when they started to process the application. She then asked if I had any other further questions, so I asked if they had an average turnaround time, in days. She said to expect 60 days and if it arrives sooner to be thankful. She said they were working on a lot of renewals, as well.

Re: October Applications

Yeah, I thought so, too. She was very friendly. Maybe she was just buried under a ton of work. But she said they wouldn't update the website until they started processing the file. Who knows, maybe it's a new procedure. In any event, I'm coming up on 5 weeks, so with some luck, I may hear something late this week or the following. Maybe even have it in the mailbox by thanksgiving.

Not even an update on the web site? Me neither, and it's been 24 days since I mailed the documents. Still showing the same thing as day 1.

License Status: Application processed online. Concealed Handgun Licensing is waiting on the receipt of required materials. Once the application and materials have been received by Concealed Handgun Licensing and processing has begun, a more detailed status will appear on this page.

I think the only updates we are going to get is after it is mailed. I would like at least some sign that they received my stuff.
If you call they will verify that they have received your documents. It won't speed up the process but it will give you peace of mind.
I called the other day and they wouldn't verify anything. They said they would verify receipt when they started to process the file. So if it takes 40 days to start on it, that's when they'll say they got it.

I submitted 10/2 so I'm thinking, with any luck, maybe I'll see an update by next Friday but hopefully no later than the following Friday, 10/15. Will keep our fingers crossed!

infoman wrote:It takes over a month before the DPS website status changes, you guys are looking at November sometime to see a change in status.. Not sure why anyone is still mailing their documents though. You can email and/or fax them to DPS. If you live in Austin area, you can drop them at their building in person too.
If you look on the Waiting Room thread, some folks had as little as 16 day turnarounds. What's happening now is the state got inundated with renewals, folks who were sitting on sitting on apps for months and hadn't renewed because they didn't take renewal training and with the change in the law, now they don't need to. So they're working on processing that newly created backlog. So now there's no telling how long it will be.

Bozz48 wrote:I apologize for the double post. I accidentally put this in the September Applications thread first.

Well, getting a CHL has been on my "bucket list" for years, and now I'm finally going for it.

Applied on line on 25 Sep
Finished the CHL class on 28 Sep
Got finger printed on 8 Oct
Mailed checklist and docs on 9 Oct

Now, I'm just waiting for the first status update. I may have messed up by not sending the checklist and docs by certified mail, return receipt requested. I sent it first class mail,
so now I have no idea if they even got it. Did most of you send it certified mail?
I submitted ours via USPS Priority Mail on 10/2 & their tracking showed they delivered it in Austin at 11:04 AM on 10/4. The website says they're still waiting to receive the docs that were delivered on the 4th. So, USPS did their part and I guess the state is just very busy. Hopefully we'll all hear something soon.
