Amazing how some only want to protect a subset of liberty but are tyrants on other domains.
Rick, Bloomberg - take your pick - choose how they want to control you.

Re: Another special session?
Its not. Its a sop to the Republican base, and he's about to announce he's running again. Nothing he's doing is based on the interests of Texans, but on his presidential hopes.suthdj wrote:JKTex wrote:I find it odd that there are still people that seem to be on deck to launch a recall campaign over gun rights bills. The Governor is the Governor of the entire state of Texas, not just the fraction of 1% of Texans that have CHL's that these bills would effect.
Sure, to us they're critical and in the grand scheme of things they important, but if 50% of the people that are impacted stood up and made noise, crickets would still be louder. In the grans scheme of things, if these issues aren't addressed, it's not going to change anything. I want a grocery list of things to get done, and think this seems like a good time to slip them through while all the colored hair costume wearing crazies are screaming in the Capitol these days, but I doubt it will. But I won't give up yet. But I'm certainly not soaking the torches in kerosene.
But yet abortion is important? From the chart at the bottom of this link http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/sfaa/texas.html it says in 2008 there were 16.5 abortion per 1000 women, so if my math is correct that is 1.6% percent of women have an abortion, compared to 3-18% of all texans having a CHL. I fail to see his priorities. Maybe if Perry just came out and stated his reasons for this it might be a little easier to take but still does not change anything.

Exactly. COnsidering his awe inspiring performance in the debates I'm surprised he thinks he has a chance.Jason K wrote:Pro-CHL bills are a state issue....

Re: Another special session?
its not relevant to the Second Amendment Issues. Its not one or the other.Wes wrote:anygunanywhere wrote:The special session is to pass legislation to protect the unborn. This is very important legislation. Put in perspective, how can we worry about campus carry and other gun issues while innocent babies are butchered?
I do want legislation passed that allows more firearms freedom, but when the most innocent are being deprived of life, I can patiently wait for my freedom.

Hopefully not. I have one going to the land of Aggies next year...GEM-Texas wrote:The students, faculty and staff at Virginia Tech or Northern Illinois and perhaps future victims in TX (remember the AK guy lately at UT) might view the issue as important.

Will it help in a presidential primary? If yes, yes, if no, no.nightmare69 wrote:Perry called a 2nd special session to begin Monday, should we even try to get gun bills on this one?

Otherwise, we will have the same set of posts proclaiming that faxes, smoke signals and voodoo dolls will make this issue come to fruition.
If he is only having a hissy fit over abortion - I think we can count him NOT as a proactive friend of the RKBA. Yep, he will sign and flap his gums but on this issue will he stand up?
Agreed.
