That was pretty quick - background check took only one week!

My VA CHP is valid in TX until it's expiration (summer 2017) under a reciprocity agreement, but I figured I'd rather get a local license to avoid any misunderstandings.
Here is my timeline:
- 07/20/13 - Completed online application
- 07/24/13 - Fingerprints
- 07/26/13 - CHL class
- 07/26/13 - Mailed out documents - Wait begins
- 07/29/13 - Mail package received per USPS tracking system
- 08/06/13 - Application received per DPS system, Background check under review
- 08/14/13 - Background check complete, Manufacturing pending.
- 08/15/13 - CHL Mailed
We'll see how long this takes - it looks like processing times vary greatly. My background is chrystal clear - not even a parking ticket - and I have a current VA CHP so you'd think it should be reasonably quick. But then I'm a Naturalized Citizen and was born and raised in the former Soviet Union, so it may delay things a bit...with me being an ex-commie and all...

Re: July apps
I highly doubt this matters. I just moved from Virginia 2 months ago and already moved once since I came to TX. Back in VA I moved twice in the past 7 years after moving to the US from abroad. Plus, in these 7 years I went throught the entire immigration process and immigration status changed from non-resident alien to a resident alien (Green Card holder) and then to a US Citizen. All kinds of places to check background from and it only took 8 days from "Background check under review" to "Background check complete".drumbdummer wrote:Same Here.... I bought and moved into a house 6 years ago. Before that, a bunch of moves, but overall very stable for the last 11 years (all in same county/town) I will check again at the end of the work day today but I am not getting my hopes up yet.
That being said, my background is clean and I've held a VA Concealed handgun permit since 2007 which is still valid, so it might have simplified it. From what I understand, the background check is done through the FBI, not local authorities - so in theory it shouldn't matter how many places in the US you have lived in and for how long.
As for my history prior to coming to the US, in order to get a Green Card I had to provide a police certificate from every locality worldwide I've ever lived in for longer than 6 months, stating that I have never been convicted of any crimes. I'd imagine that once this background requirement is satisfied for immigration purposes, it's probably sufficent for FBI as well.
