Re: Small pistol primers vs small pistol MAGNUMS

I load with both SP and SP mag primers. When I work up a load I use a chronograph to get the powder charge to where it needs to be. Then I try both SP and SP mag primers to see which delivers the lowest standard of deviation. Some powders like standard primers and some work better with mag primers. ...

I test this by cycling the press while I hold the shell plate bolt from turning. Once I'm happy with the shell plate bolt clearance I raise the platform on...

Re: Where to buy VV N320?

I've bought it at Sportsman's Warehouse. Best to call to confirm they have it in stock first. Expensive but really clean burning.

Re: Case cleaning question

Corn cobb media will give a higher polish to brass than walnut media. Walnut media is more abrasive and will remove heavy tarnish. I buy both from an industrial sandblasting supply house. Comes in 50# bags and is much cheaper than the stuff sold for reloaders. Store the excess in 5 gal buckets or sh...

Re: IDPA this SUNDAY

Late to reply but the road in to Imapct Zone is in good shape. Phil has done a lot of work on the range and continues to make improvements. Currently he is completing a stats shack/classroom in the center bay adjacent to the container.

I use Excel. It works. It's widely available. Does everything I need. I can sort on a particular powder, primer, bullet weight, etc. to see what I've tried and what worked. I have one workbook for rifle and a second for pistol. Since I load some cartridges for several different guns I have one works...

I rely on standard of deviation to evaluate pistol loads. If you have a SD of 10 this means that statistically 68% of the velocities for that load will be within +/- 10 fps of the average. If you expand the range to 2X the SD (+/-20 fps) 95% of the velocities will be within that range. Although not ...
