Well, that is true...but even barring those antics, it's still night and day. Doesn't seem to be a lot of complaints about property rights being violated, either, in regards to firearms. If business owners in Texas want to be persnickety about firearms, I'll just end up spending more of my money north of the Red.gljjt wrote:Oklahoma doesn't have OCT!K.Mooneyham wrote: I work in Oklahoma, and there don't seem to be problems up there with open or concealed carry.

Re: Almost went to jail!!!
Well, it would seem at least one issue is businesses using the police to "do their dirty work". The law should state that the owner/operator of the establishment should have to give direct notice, via voice, to someone if they want them out of their establishment PRIOR to calling the police, unless they have posted the proper 30.07 sign. In Oklahoma, no sign has the force of law, and the owner/operator must rely on giving direct notice, via voice, to those carrying. If the person notified then does not leave, it's trespassing, and the police can be rightly called. I work in Oklahoma, and there don't seem to be problems up there with open or concealed carry.

Re: Almost went to jail!!!
The whole point is that none of us are sure this even happened, or if it did happen, what the exact details are besides what was said by the OP. I wanted to know which Lubby's (as spelled by the OP) was the location of this incident. What words were passed between the management, the OP, the police, etc? Lots of stuff missing or odd about the story. And I'll tell you what, if the police told me to beat it, I certainly would not go back in that place, armed or not. I wouldn't want to give them any of my business, if nothing else. So, I do NOT take this story as being indicative of people who have already, or who will, open carry here in Texas.retrieverman wrote:The attitude expressed by the OP of this thread is why I've been opposed to open carry, and I know he's not the only one with this attitude. A minority of belligerent people are going to ruin it for all of us and give OC a bad name.

Re: Almost went to jail!!!
If that is indeed true, then it will have to be something for the courts to work out, or perhaps the AG to issue an opinion on (but I won't hold my breath for that one). Without something official to clarify the situation, it would seem that the whole point of creating 30.07 was moot.thatguyoverthere wrote:So what it's going to (or has already) come down to is that any sign of any size or any type that expresses the business owner's intent that he does not want open carry will be enforceable by default, despite the law's specific requirements for the 30.07 sign.
I guess I hadn't considered that before, but seems pretty plain to me now.

Re: Almost went to jail!!!
Yeah, I'm kind of curious which "Lubbys" posted the sign, too. Not sure of any around where I live, but I travel from time to time and it's best to know the facts of the matter.
