In the context of his cloture vote, Cornyn's later vote against the stripped senate bill was meaningless, and he knew it. It is somewhat misleading for Cornyn to claim that he has done everything he could do to defeat Obamacare. He did not fight cloture when he had the opportunity to do so. After all the dust settles, it is Cruz who comes out on top, because he did all he could to bring political heat to bear on the topic. It remains to be seen how much trouble this causes for Cornyn.

I do believe Cruz ALSO voted for cloture. The only difference I see between Cornyn's actions and Cruz's are that he stood around grandstanding for 20 hours.

Expect the market to crash today. Thanks for that.
No, Senator Cruz did NOT vote for cloture. Here is a link to an article that lists who did and did not vote for cloture among the Republicans in the Senate.

Mr. Cotton, if you read this, I am truly puzzled why Senator Cornyn voted for cloture. I just can't see any good from him voting that way.

Chas,

I tell my son this all the time " Actions have Consequences". Those in power seem to feel that they can do anything they want with impunity. We as voters need to send a strong message to these folks, either vote the principles of a conservative or we will find someone who will. There was no reason for Cornyn or any other Republican to vote for cloture. Actions speak louder than words and we know what the actions of the 25 Republicans in the Senate revealed about themselves.

John Cornyn has no one to blame but himself if he gets beat. He should have been standing right next to Cruz fighting the good fight. Our ranks have been infiltrated by individuals who claim one thing yet do the opposite. It is time to send the pretenders home.
I cannot understand why Senator Cornyn couldn't simply have voted "present" if he truly is against Obamacare, but merely disagreed with Senator Cruz' methodology. That could have been accompanied by a statement that explained his position on the matter. I'm usually not the biggest fan of "present" votes, but they occasionally have their place. It was the vote FOR cloture, that advanced the bill to a point where it almost assuredly will pass, that puzzled me.

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

If indeed a large percentage of the people in this nation, many of which are NOT happy with Obamacare, have a problem with Ted Cruz, it is because of the mass media Democrat Party propaganda machine telling them to have a problem with him. It doesn't matter what the Republican Party does; the media will scream through their megaphone that the Republican Party caused every problem under the sun. I really don't understand the Republican Party national leadership, and I guess I never will. I'm just a veteran and a mechanic, and not "educated" enough to run in those rarefied circles of political intrigue and backroom trickery. There is something seriously sick with a lot of the top dogs in this nation, in both parties. Its not like they are doing it because they care; they obviously don't. Its not like they are simply doing it for money; they are all wealthy enough to do whatever they want. So, I guess its just about power, the need to control and lord over others. And I'll never be able to fully grasp what causes folks to be like that. I was raised to be proud of the USA as a nation, trained to be a team player by the USAF, and to do my best to take care of the folks I was supposed to be leading...for better or worse, that is how I judge others.
