Re: 300 Blackout vs 5.56 NATO
It's got to be nice to have a son that is a gunsmith. To bad it was not a gas port alignment, that would have been easy to fix. As you had mentioned before, a lighter buffer may help. Just curious, but would a carbine length gas system produce a bigger gas impulse because there is more barrel betwee...

Re: 300 Blackout vs 5.56 NATO
I'm in the process of building an AR and one thing I noticed is that when the hole in the gas block is aligned with the gas port in the barrel the gas block does not touch the shoulder on the barrel. Had I not measured the location of the gas ports I would not have known they were not aligned when t...

Re: New IDPA Rules
It is my understanding that there will be no major rule changes until 2017. I have been reading about the 1-second per point down rule change here: http://idpaforum.yuku.com/topic/12050/One-Second-Per-Point-Down http://idpaforum.yuku.com/topic/12100/One-point-down Reading those discussions it looks ...

WildBill, I think you are right that it is a prop gun. If it was a real gun it looks like the bullet would have to go off inside the magazine tube, which would ruin your day.

Re: OOPS! Humerous fact-check fail.
Here is Yul Brynner with a very interesting rifle that takes a side loading magazine. I have never seen this gun before. Does anyone know what gun this is? http://www.spaghetti-western.net/images/thumb/7/76/Vlcsnap-2012-07-30-15h09m45s201.png/300px-Vlcsnap-2012-07-30-15h09m45s201.png https://voidagg...

Re: I got shot in the head today
For IDPA competitions all steel targets are placed 10 yards or more away from the shooter. In more than 2 years of IDPA competitions I have never been hit by ricochet. However, one day while out at the range to practice I was watching someone shoot at the plate rack I was hit in the chest by a ricoc...

Re: Wilderness Tactical vs Leather Gun Belt
The Aegis Enhanced Belt- Ares Gear costs around $121 and the original Wilderness Instructors Belt costs around $43. I could get almost 3 Wilderness belts for the cost of 1 Aegis Enhanced Belt. I have been wearing a 5 stitch Wilderness belt for a little over 2 years and it shows almost no wear, is st...

Re: A Round in the Chamber Carry?
The still frame where the bad guy has his left hand behind the soldiers neck with his right hand raised with a knife shows the soldier still has not reacted yet. It illustrates yet again that recognizing a danger and reacting to it is much slower than the bad guys actions.

The yellow practice round is really clever using a 7.62 round configured to have the same ballistics as the RPG.

Here is a video from Mike Lamb on how to break in a barrel. At 3:10 into the video Mike explains why you should clean the barrel to remove any oil before breaking in the barrel.

Re: Fort Worth Zoo Daycare
Found a news article about Texas Zoo's posting no gun signs at the link below: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/zoos-gun-rights-open-carry-advocates-houston/ The article mentioned something about one of the Zoo's being an educational institution, so I did a google search and found the following: Fort Wor...

Re: Wilderness Tactical vs Leather Gun Belt
I originally got a 5-stitch Wilderness Instructors Belt for IDPA competitions. It is nice and stiff (i.e. I can't collapse the belt when I try to squeeze the top and bottom together), but it's flexible worn around the body. For competitions, I can have up to 4 magazines plus the gun on the belt with...
