Re: january apps

"Manufacturing Pending" was the shortest stage ever; one day.

Here's my stage hang times from my tracking spreadsheet. (LOL at self)

Submission: 13 days (submission to DPS email acknowledgment)
Staging: 23 days (Acknowledgment to Background Check)
Background Check: 24
Manufacturing Pending: 1
Manufacturing: ?
Mailed: ?
Received: ?

Re: january apps

While I'm waiting...

Is "manufacturing pending" poor grammar? It sounds like, "making waiting." I think it looks wrong because "manufacturing" could be either a noun or a verb, so maybe it's OK. It's just that when I write it, I get the feeling that a nun is about to hit me with something. How about, "Pending Manufacture?" That would be just about as meaningless as anything else, and wouldn't offend anybody's inner ghost-nun.

Re: january apps

Yep, I was in background review (+fingerprint review) since 3/1. I check every morning and it changed to "manufacturing pending" this morning. Yay Sunday batch!

Re: january apps

I went into background review March 1st, and just went into "Manufacturing Pending" stage today.

That's 24 Days in Background Check (with fingerprints under review). Throwing out the absurdities, that seems about average for what I see here regardless of email vs. snail mail or the additional fingerprint under review stipulation that some of us see.

Re: january apps

I've been in bg check with a "fingerprint under review" since 3/1. I think some people who went into bg check without the fingerprint thing have already received plastic. I have lots of tiny little scars on my fingertips from soldering work, and these never fail to furrow the brows of fingerprint technicians. Plus,I was arrested for DWLS back in '95, so I'm sure that will land my app on yet another slow boat.

Knowing how special-ness like mine tends to bog down in any given buracracy, I'm thinking I might give them a call if I don't see anything by June... early July.

However, it seemed like there was something about them having to make a determination within 60 days from the time they start the review. Anybody familiar with this?

Here's my timeline for what it's worth...

0. 1/18: Started Application Online
1. 1/19: CHL CLass
2. 1/24: Got Fingerprinted at L1; Required Materials Submitted Online
3. 1/25: First Update: Waiting on required materials
4. 2/06: Email Response: "Received the documents"
5. 3/01: Second Update: Fingerprints and Background Check: Under review
6. 3/18: Bupkis. Nada. Zilch (cricket cricket...)

Re: january apps

I had secret recently for a contract I was on. Took them about two weeks to complete that. My guess is that TXDPS's CHL staff is not prepared to handle big spikes like the one we are in now. (Thanks again Mr. President!)

I applied online and got everything in with fingerprints on January 24th. I didn't go to background until March 1st, and then I also got the dreaded "fingerprints under review" stigma. It's not budged in two weeks.

I keeping picturing some near-sighted Magoo with a Smokey Bear hat looking at my print's upside down. :smilelol5:

Re: january apps

Yes Really. I'm starting to think the web status has more to do with internal DPS workflow than what they are ACTUALLY doing. Did you have to re-submit fingerprints?

Re: january apps

I'm on the slow boat, but at least I'm on the boat!
:woohoo
Second update at five weeks. I checked yesterday about five, so they updated it between then and 6:30 this morning.

1/18: Started Application Online
1/19: CHL CLass
1/24: Required Materials Submitted Online
1/25: First Update to: Waiting on required materials
2/6: Email Response: "Received the documents"
3/1: Second Update to : Fingerprints and Background Check: Under review

Is it normal for fingerprints to be under review? I've had trouble with fingerprints for government contracting jobs. It seems I have unusual prints with lot's of little scars and odd patterns, but that seems like it would make me much easier to identify. Probably just being paranoid.

Re: january apps

Well, about two weeks ago now, I received the "We got your attachments" notice about my required docuemts, but my status still says, "waiting on documents." Maybe my stuff got sent to an EXTRA special specialist.

Colt1911 wrote:First Update:

Jan. 23 - Class Taken & Fingerprints
Jan. 24 - Mailed all documents
Jan. 25 - Received by DPS
Jan. 29 - Emailed documents after seeing here that it was an option.

These will be forwarded to a specialist for review and/or processing."

I just got my "forwarded to a specialist" email this morning. I attached all to email January 24th. I definitely see a "batch" thing going on here. :iagree:

Re: january apps

While I wait, I'm trying to channel my anticipation into productive activities:

I just ordered two DeSantis IWB tuckable holsters, one for my pistol and another for my revolver.

I'm giving my kids and wife refresher courses on firearm safety and operation.

Practicing drawing from concealed with my revolver in an old (but adequate) Don Hume IWB. CHL instructor said to do 10-20 reps a day.

Re-Reading Massad Ayoob's "In THe Gravest Extream" and other gunny books.

Reading Steven King's Dark Tower series. Not really CHL related, but very interesting and a good distraction. :)

Filed online app last Friday. Took the class Saturday, Got fingerprinted, scanned and attached the documents to email Thursday. Began obsessive monitoring of DPS website today.
