Perhaps I wasn't clear in my response. Those same idiots would ahve carried guns in their cars or on their persons before thsi anyway. The law will not encourage them, nor did it discourage them. These fools who felt like carrying a gun made them tougher always did it. The only people who the law will encourage to carry were the few who believed that obeying the law was more important than self-defense.lawrnk wrote: I feel less concern with homeowners who are armed and unsafe, than I am about the civic next to me (with a flowmaster and spinning rims) while my 1 year old son is 5 feet away from the "you lookin at me" fool who can now carry legally in his car.
The idiots and criminals carried anyway, and a few good people carried anyway because they knew self defense was better than obedience to the law. Since the statute of limitations has long expired, I will tell you I used to carry an S&W Model 19 in the edge of my bunk when I drove a truck cross country. I started after someone offered me $20,000 to park the truck at a specific truck stop in El Paso. Being an owner operator, and a former MP, I felt like I needed to protect my truck from being stolen.
I did not think you were anti RKBA, though you have not yet gotten to the level I have on how deeply you feel about it. I understand how a new child can make you look at the world and the people near you differently. I was probably a little over-protective with my first son also. By the time the seventh child was born, I learned it is better to show them the real world and let them learn from other's mistakes. The only downside is that most of them will never go through the stage of supporting some liberal ideas that may really deserve some support. I do understand how Churchill (I think) could say that a person of 20 should be liberal and a person of 40 should be conservative. Please do not mistake me as someone who is anti RKBA, but I keep seeing people with firearms who put my, and more importantly my family's safety at risk...and it concerns me. I believe the right to keep and bear arms, is inherent. But as much as it pains me to say, I worry. As a new parent, I never worry about the gang thug who moved back home with his mamma next door as there is several feet of brick between him and my son. I do worry about the 21 year old thug who bought a Lorcin and is now playing with it in his car, never learned safety, and my kid is looking out the car window at him.
