In the basic pistol class I took several years ago at the Arms Room and during my chl class, also at the arms room we covered exactly that - bang bang look, bang bang bang look. That was also one of the drills in the NRA personal protection class that I took last year at PSC with Charles Cotton. And they all were for the same reason - training to break the tunnel vision that occurs when fight/flight kicks in.mud farmer wrote:I don't know about LEO training in Texas but every intermediate or above firearm class I took included that.Excaliber wrote:We did the same in New York.texanjoker wrote:That goes back to the training we did in CA, but I have yet to see here in TX. After firing the course of fire, you scan for an additional threat before holstering.

Re: i drew my weapon tonight
Agreed. What the OP described would be considered a text-book example of an escalation continuum where the OP's increased readiness was only in reaction to each progressively aggressive action of the other driver. This is a topic that's given a pretty fair amount of time in the NRA Personal Protection class.KC5AV wrote:Under normal circumstances, I'd agree with you. So your only tool for a person yelling is your gun? How about a person who pushes you? Shoot him? I ask these questions to provoke thought.
The other driver had already become the aggressor.
They had been tailgating the OP.
They passed the OP at a high rate of speed.
They blocked the road to prevent the OP from advancing.
They left their vehicle and advanced on the OP.
The non-verbal cues this other driver was giving off definitely pointed toward a willingness to engage in violent behavior. To think otherwise would be to willfully remain in condition white. The OP simply readied his weapon to make it more likely that he would have the advantage if the other driver continued to advance.

Re: i drew my weapon tonight
Glad everyone went home safe & unharmed. It's a lot easier for us to Monday morning qb your situation since we weren't there having to make the million & one calculations & decisions that you had to.
Since I've already decided that my gun is a last resort, I'm going to avoid & evade if at all possible. That would include taking a quick & unplanned right turn, accelerating quickly, getting in the next lane or pulling over & slowing down, backing up if blocked, etc. I'm even more adamant about avoiding a confrontation when my family are in the car with me.
Again, this is not criticism. It's simply observation after reading this thread from the warm and comfy confines of my living room with my beagle snoring on the couch beside me.
