They shouldn't question it, by definition you are one of a class of the most law abiding citizens and, for now at least, it is against the law.
None the less, old thread, good topic. My Texas CHL has my DL number on it (issued in 2012), so not sure why it would present a problem as sole ID, albeit my DL does not reference my CHL (issued in 2013).The first time I voted after the new voters ID law I presented my DL, CHL, Passport Card, Passport and voters registration card.
