In reference to the kids knowing about your weapon....I thought my son handled that really well. My granddaughter is 6, and when he first started the process, he sat down with her, showed her the weapon, let her hold it (after doing multiple/complete safety checks). He explained to her that he would always carry his weapon to protect her and her Mom, but that a CHL means that it's a secret from everyone. The law has given Daddy permission to carry this weapon but not everyone understands this law and so she must NEVER say anything about Daddy's gun when they're around other people. It's their secret. It's no big deal to her now. I think that dealing with their natural curiosity and being open and honest - EDUCATING - is the best way to handle the situation. I know that not all are happy with their spouses carrying so that might not work in every situation. To the OP, I definitely think a good and open discussion with your son would be in order. If you're not familiar with "Eddie Eagle" it's a great program for teaching kids gun safety. (This was the program my son used to educate his daughter. She KNOWS the Eddie Eagle rules!)
