Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises
He was creepy to watch. As brilliant as he seems to be, and as calculated as his attack was, I couldn't help but wonder if he was acting today. I almost didn't buy the pitiful looks and absent stares.C-dub wrote:I saw some of the footage of him in court today on the news. Either is nuts or the stress and gravity of what he's done and what he's facing is coming down on him.

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises
I have to agree with Jim on this one. I agree that we all have free will, and in the end we cannot place blame on anyone or anything but our choices, but I believe there is a direct correlation between what we fill our minds with and our behavior. As a middle school teacher, I can attest to the fact that what Jim has stated IS a contributor to what is happening in society. I know what my students watch/play/listen to. I give them a "get to know you" quiz at the beginning of each year, and they are happy to share that information with me. Then I go on iTunes and check out what they've shared. In 12 years, I have seen a HUGE decline in the quality and content of their entertainment. Along with that, there has also been a decline in the attitude/demeanor of the students in my classroom. What used to be a "big deal" is not anymore. They do and say things that astound me and then are insulted when I call them on it. They ARE desensitized and truly don't see that they did anything wrong, and when I call their parents, more often than not, the parents don't see what a "big deal" it is either.Jim Beaux wrote:Ive been patiently waiting and yet no one has stated the obvious; this slaughter is not about access to guns, it's about the influence of violent video games and movies on easily influenced young kids. Due to the media bombardment, our society has become indifferent to commitment to marriage, illegitimate children, same sex pairings, character, drugs, and work ethics.
We may never know what motivated the dirtbag Friday evening, but I'd be interested to know how he spent his free time as a teenager.

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises
Wow! This guy was prepared. Per the Police Chief at press conference: He was wearing a ballistic helmet, tactical vest, tactical leggings, groin protector, and throat protector. Not too many places for anyone to get a clear shot. The police chief said they were there within a minute and a half after they received notification of the incident. Still don't understand though why the guy ran amuck for 15 minutes before there was a 911 call made.

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises
Odd thing is, he wasn't apprehended inside the theater. He shot for 15 minutes, then went outside and sat down by his car and offered no resistance when they found him.RPB wrote:Seriously though, glad Police were ALREADY THERE in the building and they didn't have to wait after calling 911, it could have been really bad.

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises
Adding my prayers for all involved.
I don't understand why it's so hard for the "ban guns" people to get that gun laws only apply to the good guys.
