I won't try to justify the timing of Obama's gun control comments but I suspect the family was not has bothered by that nearly as much as hearing their pastor's neglect was a major factor in the disaster.

I responded to a question by a poster on a progun control website, who asked about where the poster could suggest gun bans reduced murders.

I suggested politely that Mexico was a place where gun were banned.

My post was removed and I was permanently banned from the website.

I hope the new members to the website will understand that Mr Cotton's website enjoys all posts that are polite and obey the other fair rules of the site.

I have found from my time on this site that Mr. Cotton is an intelligent honorable man. If for an reason someone found his comments in any way objectionable, I have no doubt that it was unintentioned.

The world would be a much finer place, if there were only more people like Mr. Cotton.

That's some serious victim-blaming, sir. Isn't the murderer in fact the one to blame for the nine dead folks being dead? (I realize that may not fit your agenda, to put the blame squarely where it belongs - at the feet of a guy who used a gun to kill nine innocents in a house of worship - but try for some accuracy. You demean your cause otherwise, I feel.)

According to a 2013 Pew Research study, 37 percent of households had an adult who owned a gun — 24 percent said they owned a gun, and 13 percent said someone else in their household did.

There are about 319 million people in the United States, so that means there are about 118 milion gun owners in this nation. Mother Jones reports there have been 69 mass shootings in the last 30 years. The Washington Post says, A Congressional Research Service report published in 2013 counted 78 incidents over roughly the same period, in which 547 were killed.

That means, out of 118 million gun owners, 78 or .00007 percent of the gun owning population are potential mass murderers (using a 30-year total).
