I think it's just because so many people have trouble spelling "Beretta" correctly...Baretta, Barretta, Berreta... ;-)

Seriously though, I can't remember the last time I've heard someone say, "I got a Beretta, and it was a lemon." I'm thinking of the recent Kahr and Kel-Tec threads. Beretta is a consistently well-made product.
