Yea even though it's not 30.06 if they have a sign and it's a situation where you will have to reveil your weapon at some point best to leave it in the vehicle. Wouldn't want to get kicked out of the docs office.
Only other option is to get a gun friendly doc.

As far as drawing and then not shooting I would definitely call 911 immediately and report the incident, ect.. I've got a g19 and g26 with thousands of rounds through each with no FTFs, only 2 FTE and both of those were when my sister was shooting the g19 with subsonic ammo. Also had a g17 years ago, had one FTF for about 4000 rounds.
Hit the range with it again you will end up loving it.
