If you are in the NG or on Active Duty, then check with your BN CSM or BN CDR. They can decide if a personal sidearm is part of your uniform on or off-duty. In any case, they can advise you as to how they want to conduct yourself.

I am not sure now, but in the early 90s the CSMs on NG and Active would be given exceptions to Post Regulations in order to maintain a small QRF or to quietly guard sensitive facilities or personnel. If you ended up on one of these teams, you could carry a pistol and/or drew ammunition for your issued rifle/shotgun.

I think our posts are wide-open to attack by terrorists. For this reason, I would require soldiers with CHL to open-carry when on post and in uniform and concealed otherwise.
