Acting on a tip from the worlds foremost M14/M1A historian I started buying complete ChiCom M14s back in '04, this was after dealing with failed reproduction parts and terrible QC on my '01 Springfield Armory, Inc. Scout Squad. I bought them cheap and stacked them deep... I think I purchased a dozen of them over a 4 year period and all but one are heel stamped. The Annoyed Man wrote:
H20 MAN, where do you source your Polytech and Norinco recievers from?

Re: SA Socom 16
I am glad you like them and hope they inspire you to have something custom built for yourself. The Annoyed Man wrote: I saw your collection of blasters in the "black guns" thread, and I have to say that you're one of the first members of this board of whom I am intensely jealous!
I LOVE me some M1A! Yes I do. I have some questions about your Polytech receiver.....
Did you have it magnafluxed or anything like that before building the rifle to make sure that it was up to mil-spec for durability, lack of internal stress cracks, etc.?
All of my M14s are built on forged Poly Tech and Norinco receivers, all are built by the same smith, Ron Smith.
My simple instructions for Mr. Smith on each build was for him to build it as if the rifle was going to be his one and only personal M14.
All are chambered for M118LR... this allows me to fire just about any 7.62X51 NATO or .308 ammo I can scrounge up.
All are built with USGI (mostly TRW), SEI and select Norinco and Poly Tech parts.
The results have been nothing short of outstanding... two have fired over 2K rounds each without a single malfunction or failure.
I run the M14DC Fisher/SEI sound suppressor on my rifles often and I do this without an adjustable gas plug or gas system modifications.
Some have said this would beat my action to death, but I have not experienced any problems.

Congratulations!Keith wrote:Have wanted A Springfield Socom 16 for some time. Finally purchased one and took it to the range. ...
I also wanted a SOCOM ever since SA, Inc. came out with the stubby blaster in '04... I have handled and fired a few of them, but I resisted
buying one because I wanted to run my sound suppressor on it. About this time last year I had my smith custom build this CQB-16 EBR for me
on a Poly Tech receiver. The barrel is 16.25" (same as the SOCOM), but it has 4 grooves and a 1:10 ROT and it is set-up to accept my M14 DC can.
It's very accurate with iron sights... the front sight has a thin NM blade and recoil is nothing now that I have installed a .30cal Muzzle Brake.
The low sitting quick release Aimpoint Micro T-1 is fast and easy to use, but it does not co-witness the iron sights... It's a keeper
