anything else they can deem absolutely ness?
I suggest we watch what is being done regarding 17 yr old murderers. There is a big hole on the punishment side. Some of the proposals (bills) I've read probably will not pass SCOTUS and constitutional muster.

This may be the issue that gets another session called.

You may be surprised to learn that Speaker Straus (R-San Antonio) is "A" rated by NRA-ILA. Rep. Joe Pickett (D-El Paso), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee is likewise "A" rated.
How would you have rated these individuals based upon their actions in the last three regular sessions?
Soon, I think, it will be time to evaluate the methods and results of ILA's evaluation of candidates.
You may wish to make your own assessment of the matter.
My evaluation is based on 1 particular bill and subject "the sign" bill (HB508 and Now SB16). Every last Senator who voted for the amendment that killed it in the House gets an "F". Every member of the conference committee who "failed to do right" gets an "F". Picket gets 2 double "F's" for not allowing HB3218 to even be voted on in committee.

It's a pretty safe bet that NRA/TSRA know what they're talking about. They're not getting their information from press releases or official announcements; they're talking to people on the inside.
Thats why I kept my focus on the "sign" bill, now SB16. That one could be passed and sent to the governor in a few hrs. Campus Carry is going nowhere without trickery in the Senate to get around the 2/3 rule. It might not be a good idea to run over democrats from large areas with colleges. That could really come back to bite. So it is a waste of time and money this session. Open Carry died a quick and early death. Another waste of money.
SB16 (old HB508) was the only gun bill that was going to pass normally until the non germain amendments were presented. A clean bill should pass both houses quickly. This bill will have the most benefit for more CHL holders with little political risk.
Just my thoughts.

I focused my inputs on the issue of cities improperly posting signs to restrict CHLs' from carrying in government buildings. Perry has said repeatedly he would only add to the call with things likely to pass. I spoke about how this bill would have passed without the objectionable amendments. I informed her it had been refiled as SB16 and made no attempt to recommend an action that would throw the session wide open for gun bills. We might have some success with a focused approach, but I believe campus carry and open carry is dead and will not be added.

"While transportation, pro-life and juvenile justice issues have been added to the call for the current special session, the NRA has been informed that important Second Amendment issues such as campus carry will NOT be included. While Governor Rick Perry (R) has the authority to add subjects to the call, he does so with input from the Lieutenant Governor (who presides over the state Senate) and the Speaker of the House. Please express your dissatisfaction with the following officials:"
I will. Every time they run for office I iwill tell everyone who will listen how these politicians REALLY feel about gun rights for tax paying Texans.
My neighbor said it best. Perry is all hat and no cattle.
Saw a Dallas (R) state rep on news last night getting an award from DPD thanking him for allowing drone spying. This state is full of RINOs.

I don't know that the practice is permissible or an authorized expenditure of state funds in doing so. The legislature is supposed to be working on what the Governor transmitted when he called the legislature into session, but then again when did such details bother the lege?
That legislators can file a bill on any topic during the special session is actually one of the few efficiencies of state government. Knowing that any topic can be added at any time, having the off-topic bills filled ahead of the call actually saves time in that the bills are immediately available for consideration.
Another positive for a legislator is to be able to claim that you tried. I filed the special bill for topic XYZ but the Governor didn't open up the special session. Blame him.

Has anyone seen any bills filed similar to HB3218? I haven't.

It depends what source you choose to use.
The way I read about special sessions, we'll have to wait until he expands the current special session call to include gun related subjects, or calls another special session just for gun issues. Until then, we can't really expect anything to happen. It would be a really big stretch to cover gun bills with a call about redistricting.

I like the way you think. I hope he keeps the legislature in session until we get all the good stuff, or the Cowboys win the superbowl.
