Re: August 2011 Applications

Grapevinebill wrote:After all the waiting and thinking I am finding myself feeling unprepared. I really don't have a good CCW. I do have a Beretta 9mm but is it full size and really won't work IWB. I plan on adding to the collection and have been telling myself to wait till I get the plastic. But if I wait till I get the plastic, then I have to get a holster and it will be several weeks before I make the Wally Walk. With all our new walkers here maybe a suggestion could come my way on a good size .40 or 9mm and holster...

Bill

My primary carry is the Glock 27 with a Crossbreed IWB holster. That is the most comfortable rig I have. My favorite gun is the Glock 22 and it also fits in the Crossbreed but I prefer to carry it when I have on a jacket and use a Blackhawk paddle rig OWB. Personally I find it tough to conceal under summer clothes. Last weekend I found a gun store going out of business and picked up a brand new XD in 9mm for a great price. It came with mag holders and a small plastic holster. I haven't carried it yet because I haven't shot it yet but it is a real comfortable gun in the hand so it definately has potential. If you were closer to San Antonio I would be happy to let you fire each of these and see what you like or didn't like.

Today was the day! I was working today and my dad sends me a text saying I got it. I almost left just to get it. The bad thing is that I have to work tomorrow and I can't conceal in uniform. Also, the only way I can carry a weapon, in uniform, is if it's part of my duty.
Again thanks a lot for giving me a place to talk about the wait. It was a horrible 36 days, but I made it!

Congrats JMCruz! :anamatedbanana

bluejay71 wrote:So, a question to divert us while we wait. Concealed carry has been a privilege in Texas for many years. Why are you in the August/Sept waiting rooms just now getting yours? DH and I have been married a number of years. We were poor students for the first few. Then we lived out of state for a while. Now we are back and excited to seize our privileges as Texans. I'd like to hear your stories. :bigear:
Was all set to do it years ago and was told by a lawyer friend and cop friend that I really didn't have to because I could have it in the car with me anyway. Saw crime stats climbing here in San Antonio and decided I wanted to carry full time so I took the class.

Z8442 wrote:Passing the time by purchasing my glock 26 and going to the range today to get used to it. I love 9mm by the way. Out of curiosity what will be your guys' carry pistols? Also is anyone still on the fence between a few pistols?
I bought the G27 because I already had a G22 and it just made sense for me to keep the same .40 cal for cost purposes. I would like to get a .45 though like a Kimber CDP or Ultra. I have even thought about getting a Glock in .357. Read somewhere that the .357 is the gold standard for handgun cartridges based on its performance characteristics.

Welcome Larrs

That's a good question. I assume it is a more in depth check for the CHL but I do not know that for a fact.

Re: August 2011 Applications

Welcome Bluejay.

You can take the gun with you in your vehicle, you can even have it on a boat now. You just can't have it on your person until you get your plastic card back from DPS.
