I know a lot of people swear by their RIA, but I dont think ill buy another. The prices on them are creeping up for the more feature rich models and the ejector on min snapped. The part was out of stock at their parts site, customer service for RIA told me they couldn't help me, that I just needed to keep checking the site from time to time or fit a 3rd party one.Javier730 wrote:I had a Rock Island 1911. My Ruger 1911 ate it. Thats a "fact."TexasFlash wrote:Nothing wrong with Ruger, but you are dead wrong on Rock Island 1911's; might want to check "facts" before posting. Out of the box, I would put money on Rock Island 1911 reliability against many other, much more expensive, 1911's. Check the 1911 forums; see what owners say. .(I don't think this thread is about rifles, by the way.}drjoker wrote:Rock Island is "assembled" in the USA from Philippine parts. Ruger is made in America 100% and Ruger stands behind everything that they sell. The Rock Island has parts made by Armscor. I have an Armscor rifle. It is the worst rifle I have ever owned. Used guns have zero warranty.Javier730 wrote:rotor wrote:Ruger SR1911.
I am saving for a 1911, too. Ruger SR1911.

Wilson combat are readily available, but as others mentioned, parts wont be drop in. A lot of parts are made over-sized and are meant to be fitted. I would highly recommend having a gunsmith replace your safety since you are new to 1911. File off a hair too much metal and your safety may not work reliably or at all.

Re: 1911 suggestions in $500-$700 range??
Since this is your first one, I would go for reliability over features, if you enjoy the 1911, which you will, your collection will grow to more feature/style rich versions.
As mirrored, go for a Springfield that fits in your budget. If you cant find one in your budget, go for Rock Island. Some Rock Islands have improved parts over GI style, but you may eventually upgrade some parts for repair or to your taste. I think the Remington R1 still has a rebate going in the standard R1 GI style.
Im not a fan of Series 80, so i stay away from those. I also prefer enhanced over GI style. I have an SR1911 Lightweight Commander that ive had issues with, but once worked out its my favorite. My RIA has had the ejector snapped once, but it shoots wonderfully. My SW im waiting on repair back for the 3rd time
