It's not a time issue. It a desire and will issue of the leadership. Most bills have to benefit the right people in the right way to get any traction.roadkill wrote:Well if they wouldn't waste all their time with pointless things in the beginning they'd have the time to pass what they need

They'll get to what the leadership wants, nothing more, nothing less.

Hope you didn't have your heart set on that enchilada.Liberty wrote:I think they are apeasing to their membership, but maybe their heart when push comes to shove, is to put 560 before all others. 560 is a bit complex and a little hard to explain in a news letter..mojo84 wrote:If what you say is true, why did they feature unlicensed carry? Getting the pieces together such as reciprocity, free licensing, and authority to carry more places, makes the LTC more desirable.
I still think we have a good chance to get the whole enchilada

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
Charles, with all due respect, I understand why you are hesitant to say anything further but please understand, being kept in the dark leads many to be very frustrated with the system and how things are done. Maybe the way the system is set up with only I riders be given the opportunity to know what is actually going on leads to less participation and fewer people helping to carry the load. Ignorance is not as beneficial and blissful as many think. Too much of our lawmaking is done in secret and behind closed doors. When only insiders know what's going on only insiders are prepared to carry the load.Charles L. Cotton wrote:I would love to say so much more folks, but this is a public forum and I simply cannot expound on the situation.
Unfortunately, among the gun community as everywhere else in life, less than 10% of a group carry the load for everyone else. Only time will tell how many Texas gun owners are serious about sweeping changes to our gun laws.
Chas.
As I asked previously, what significant bills are still alive? How heavy are the headwinds? What can us outsiders do to help carry the load?
Thanks for all you do. Just wish there was more transparency in the process.

Chas.
Any significant pro gun rights bills still alive?
From what I heard prior to the session from my rep and his staff, I am not optimistic.

I'm a little disappointed unlincensed carry was featured in this newsletter from TSRA instead of reducing off limits locations.

They all voted for Straus to be speaker. I agree with your comment about running out of time. The problem is, it's Straus and the dems that are delaying things.Lambda Force wrote:Don't let any of them get away with lying about running out of time. Especially the ones who voted for Straus to be Speaker.
Whatever happens this session, Remember in November.
They'll get done what they want.

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
Have the committee's chairs been assigned in the house? Saw the other day Straus and his dem buddies are slow rolling things this session. I also had heard prior to the session there wasn't much interest in significant gun friendly legislation this session.TexasCajun wrote:Well so far, nothing is happening with this great bill. No one has signed on as a co-author or as a sponsor and it hasn't even been assigned to committee yet. I'm guessing that the legislature is taking a break from gun bills this session.
I'm not real optimistic much is going to be done to restore and advance gun rights this session. I also see the senate, governor and It. Governor primarily pushing other issues.

Thank you for contacting our office in support of HB 560 by Representative Springer. As a proud gun-owner, hunter, and concealed handgun license holder, Senator Perry truly believes gun rights are some of the most fundamental rights we hold as Americans.
Senator Perry plans to support Rep. Springer's bill, House Bill 560, when it arrives to the Senate. Senator Perry fights fiercely to protect all Second Amendment rights of law abiding Texans. It is Senator Perry's hope that the Texas Legislature will lead on this issue and produce legislation that will protect all Texans.
Thank you for reaching out to our office on this important issue. Should you have any further concerns or wish to speak more in depth on this or any other issue, please feel free to give our office a call at (512) 463-0128.
With Liberty,
This is more in line with the kind of response I was hoping to receive.
