Deal to you both.
I thought about sending a PM, but it was spur of the moment deal and we just grabbed our stuff, jumped in the car and headed out. Wimberley is not far away, actually.

If only I could find that old post/PM/e-mail.
I know about how there is no end to the good one can do if you don't care who gets the credit, but come on, now! Don't be shy!

Re: San Antonio meet and greet set
Hey, Longdog, thank you very much for bringing me the book about Sam Houston. I have finished as much as I can of it, being highly allergic to fiction, even to the point of cancelling newspaper subscriptions.
Is the author related to you by chance?
BTW, I was in Wimberley today, for the first time since Boy Scout Camp in 1956-57. It's only about 15 miles from here.

Re: San Antonio meet and greet set
Thanks for sharing those pictures, and congratulations for getting the names in there.
I wish I could remember everyone's REAL name now.
Just think, all those CHL'd gun owners there and not one problem, no children harmed, or threatened, everyone behaved themselves within tolerable limits, and parted friends. Remarkable!
Jay, how was the play?

Re: San Antonio meet and greet set
Very pleasant indeed. It seemed like a pretty good group. Everyone was very kind, and if anyone didn't enjoy it, they kept it awfully well hidden.SewTexas wrote:today was alot of fun!
After more than 50 years of amateur radio, I am quite used to the concept of having friends I've never met, and the pleasure of eventually meeting them.
Jay took a couple of pictures. I'm not sure if he intends to post them or offer them to the highest bidder. He doesn't have anything to worry about. He was with his wife!
We ought to do something like that from time to time.

Well, at least we will have a quorum at the Forum, err, Quarry.
I have been to the Quarry, the Whole Foods is there and a University Coop where I can load up on Texas Exes gear! Burnt Orange Heaven!!!

Re: San Antonio meet and greet set
I've been drinking ice tea all my life, and that goes back a ways. One of the things I had to get used to when I went to military duty in California was that ice tea wasn't available routinely everywhere one went, like it was here. There is still a Burger King I know of in San Diego that doesn't offer it, or didn't the last time I stopped in and left without buying anything.3dfxMM wrote:I have always thought of sweet tea as a southern tradition that has fairly recently made its way west to Texas. At least here, they still ask or default to unsweet tea. Go to Georgia or North Carolina and see what you get if you aren't specific. :)JALLEN wrote:I suppose so. New Yorkers ridiculously call coffee with milk in it "regular" coffee. I found that I had to specify that I wanted it black if I wanted it without milk.

Re: San Antonio meet and greet set
The consensus was to meet at the 5 Guys. I have no idea what 5 Guys is like, having never been to one. I'm told it is a hamburger and fries joint.
Referring to the online site, I see it opens at 11 AM, so you can come early and get a good seat but not TOO early.
They better have iced tea.

Re: San Antonio meet and greet set
Well, cool. Most of the time all these years, my Aggie friends would be saying "Wait 'til next year!"SlowDave wrote:Don't get on here all that often, but this sounds interesting. I have an appt at 2, but may be able to swing by for a quick lunch and greet possibly. And someone needs to bring some maroon to this gathering to offset JALLEN's burnt orange. :-) I'll try to wear maroon and look for Wilford Brimley on a diet and so on... No guarantees though.JALLEN wrote:This Saturday, July 27 at noon at the 5 Guys at Alamo Quarry.
As I mentioned in the other thread, I plan on wearing a white golf shirt with a Longhorn, and khaki slacks.
In all likelihood, I'll be the only old, fat man with a white mustache in the place.
Good for you, see you then. I hope to be sipping a large tea.

Re: San Antonio meet and greet set
That's awfully nice to say! Of course we can make arrangements. I've enjoyed meeting a good many of the Sig Forum guys; most of them aren't nearly as funny looking as you might imagine, either.SigM4 wrote:Well JALLEN it's about my luck that you finally make it to Texas and about that time we move off to Missouri. Ever since first meeting you on Sig Forum I've wanted to shake your hand. Maybe we can make arrangements next time my wife and I are in San Antonio. Either way congrats on getting settled in and glad to have you back home.
Good luck in the new locale, and keep in touch especially when you will be in the area. Will you be anywhere near the Truman Library? I intend to pay a call there first chance I get.

OK.Pecos wrote:JALLEN you wrong!!! Im a fat man with white hair & yellow teeth!!!! ans a goatee.
See you there!
All right, you other folks, when you get to 5 Guys, look for two old fat men with white hair, one with a goatee and yellow teeth and one who looks like Wilford Brimley has been in a famine.
